verdictjosh
Be the first time I would have come across a beta that couldn't be upgraded to stable I see no reason why they could just offer patch's though instead...
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted September 4, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted September 4, 2009 The beta is going well so far - there have been issues reported as we would expect but the core billing is functioning fine so please do upgrade and give it a try if you're willing to deal with minor issues. And you will be able to upgrade to the stable release from the beta when available. Matt
thehost5968
verdictjosh, please red what I post and not what you think I posted. I did not say it would need a require a full re-install. So I think we both need to say we are both right on this one I am not going in to it at all.

Daniel
Shame it doesn't have the admin chat feature that I've just seen in the new version of CE, something for the future maybe?
chrismfz
Shame it doesn't have the admin chat feature that I've just seen in the new version of CE, something for the future maybe? Off topic: You can implement something like this in your admin homepage.tpl with some modifications... but I believe something smaller and more practical like VPS.net home page tiny chat should be great

Daniel
Indeed, but can it be made to popup for everyone logged into the admin area?
johannes
http://www.learningmovabletype.com/a/000326popup_window/ I`m sure there are a lot more functions, javascripts, ajax solutions outside in the web .. and include the call in the .tpl

Derek
I honestly haven't even used anything that was added. Anything that is added from whmcs from version 4.0.2 is just a bonus for me since WHMCS is amazing.

ozace
upgrade was smooth, no surprises yet - wiki seems to be right so far on templates changed - I do like the ability to decrypt password - sorry - I know it is poor practice but it will make our life a lot easier in the transition Jim
fahmi
I still have a few problem after upgrade to version 4.1, activation domain for stargate was failed, etc. I've already informed to Matt.

RandyC
I am not a fan of the idea of md5 reversible option for passwords, the reason they are called passwords and not just text is because they should be kept secret.
scurrell
I am not a fan of the idea of md5 reversible option for passwords, the reason they are called passwords and not just text is because they should be kept secret. Doesn't really matter, as you have the choice which method to use.
RandyC
Doesn't really matter, as you have the choice which method to use. I understand that but the fact that it is an option is 1) an invasion of privacy, 2) if you or your staff know the person and they use the same password you mind as well just login to all there accounts.
mylove4life
Can't you login as a client anyway!

Correct. Ask your customers which method they'd preffer, I think the answer is clear. Remember this is about protecting your customers, not making your life easier.
boostplatform
I take it if we have a Free license we aren't good enough to try the Beta that you are encouraging us to upgrade to? I'm not sure about that, as we have a license through a reseller and the beta is available to us. (The type of the license shows up as "Free Account")
eugenevdm
Let's not digress and try to keep this conversation to the point based on feedback for version 4.1. The MD5 password issue is discussed at length in other threads on this forum.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted September 22, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted September 22, 2009 Thanks for the continued feedback. The beta is indeed not available to those with a license from their web-host. The option for a reversable client passwords is not something we wanted to include, indeed in V4 we removed the option entirely and forced MD5, but there was a lot of users who made it clear they relied on seeing a clients password for their close relationship with customers (and without it, their business could end!), so we've had to bring an option back, although it's use is not recommend as stated in the changelog. Thanks again to all those who have tested and reported back with any problems. We are now coming close to a stable release of 4.1. Stay tuned.
