easyhosting
Hi All HAs anyone else noticed that ever since the Hostgator social engineering issue that the WHMCS is been attacked by Spammers. As these spammers are using the spam links and the same format for usernames i beleive that these are the same people that once they get banned they just set up as new account and start again.
WebsiteIntegrations
I think it has more to do with the vbulletin upgrade - maybe they had some kind of bot 'fighting' mod before that they didn't apply to the new forum. One of those mods that hook to http://www.stopforumspam.com/ would be helpful

openmind
Nothing to do with the hack at all, it's just spam. One thing I have noticed missing though is the ability to report a post as spam, that does seem to have disappeared...

bear
Everyone clamored for VB4, claiming WHMCS didn't care about security. Decreased ability to fight spam (and far worse moderation tools) is part of VB4. Ironic, that.
openmind
I didn't demand vb4, I still think vBull is pants and vb4 is a shocking release. Even a fully patched vb3 version is better...
bear
I didn't demand vb4, I still think vBull is pants and vb4 is a shocking release. Even a fully patched vb3 version is better... Ok, not *everyone* did, but the vocal majority did while attempting to place blame for the compromise. When they found it wasn't WHMCS coding at fault, they tore into every possible way they could potentially be attacked in the future (choice of host, procedures and more). The forum software, though fully patched, was one of those things they found fault with. <opinion> Rather than debate that with the naysayers, they updated to the latest version mainly to placate them, despite the awfulness of it. </opinion> In an effort to lock it down even further, they also reduced access to the back end so drastically it's even harder to fight spam. In the past I was able to add filters and manage some of that, but no longer. So, thank the ones that attacked WHMCS when they were down, it's helped the spammers gain more of a foothold, and I moderate a bit less these days. :-( Sorry for the rant, it's been bugging me for some time now.
openmind
You're welcome to the rant and I couldn't agree more. I too was getting a little weary of posters blaming everything from the forum to their pet gold fish dropping dead on the WHMCS attack...
panacheweb
We wanted WHMCS to upgrade the forum after it was hacked too... they should have spent the money and went with IPB, which is a much superior forum software impo.
easyhosting
they should have spent the money and went with IPB, which is a much superior forum software impo. true but think of all the extra work etc. in converting the VB database etc.
bear
went with IPB, which is a much superior forum software impo. Can't say I agree there. From arrogant and nasty owners to awful moderation tools, there really isn't any comparison in my own opinion. To each his own, but I find that kind of terrible. ;-)

DavidBee
I think everyone has seen a massive increase in forum spam over the past few days/weeks. Seen a few threads on various forums about this. I don't think its just VB thats being hit. We are using IPboard and our daily spam sign ups have increased. IPboard has a great built in spam filter.

bear
I was happy with an up to date VB3, but understand the need to stay current. VB4 isn't as moderation friendly as V3 was; it's missing some rather useful things that used to be in it. It's still better than Xenforo for that, though. I actually stepped down as a mod for a site using that, it's that bad.
Bubka3
An interesting stand, as it seems you don't like anything up to date! hehe In any case, what are useful things you would like xenforo and vB4 to have, moderator-wise? I usually work in the Admin CP (backend), so I never really moderate, so I'm unaware of the flaws of it. My mods haven't really had any specific complains either, so I'm not aware on where's its lacking. bear
An interesting stand, as it seems you don't like anything up to date! heheUp to date/new doesn't necessarily mean better. I like things plain and usable, not all "web 2.0" and fluffy. Gets the job done faster. I've used Eudora for email for over 12 years now, because it can show me email without all the backgrounds and animated silliness folks sometimes use. That sort of thing; reliable, simple and familiar. In any case, what are useful things you would like xenforo and vB4 to have, moderator-wise? Small things are changed/missing in VB. One would be a visual indicator of deleted or moderated posts when viewing all posts by a user. Xenforo has the same shortcoming. I'd need to go over it all to have a longer list, but that was the first one that came to mind.
