New TLD`s.... WHMCS needs to catch a wake up

Im a little pissed off at the moment. ICANN released all these new TLD`s and WHMCS still have not integrated them into the whoisservers.php.

I cant understand how they are so slow. Surely such a huge release of these domains which impacts your clients CORE business should have been noted and acted upon as soon as they were released?

I feel like people are asleep at WHMCS.

You are able to edit the file and add whois servers yourself.

The following thread should help

http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?86494-New-gTLDs-Whois-Server

<edit> Brian! beat me to it </edit>

Thanks for that, done this already, but it created issues before we realized that whmcs were so far behind. Thats not the point of my post. This should have been included by whmcs in a release already. It impacts their clients core business. Not having included these in a timely fashion speaks volumes about the people managing this project.

If someone had to fork whmcs, offer quicker support and have a system that is up to date and relevant to their clients needs I would pay triple for a service like that.

Also, re that page. whois.donuts.co did not work for us. We had to change to the whois servers listed here: http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registries/listing

Hi,

A number of the whois servers for the new gTLDs are included in v5.3.7. As we make new releases we will be including more as domains reach general availability.

We can't make a new release every time a new TLD reaches general availability just to update the whoisservers.php file, so sometimes there will be a delay between a domain being launched and our next release.

However in the meantime you can add the appropriate line to your local copy of the file as brian! explained.

why not put the file on the whmcs wiki and allow people to copy and paste the updated data from there.. and just update it with every update or release you guys make???

there would have been no need to release a new version of whmcs just for an updated whois list, all they would have needed to do was to release a hotfix for the one file and post an announcement in the forum or in the popup in the admin area...

however, I have to say that the current whoisservers.php file is still riddled with errors, duplicates, redundant tlds etc.

i'm currently going through the existing whois file, and creating (and thoroughly testing!) a new updated list for all cctld, existing and new gtlds, (2nd and 3rd level too where applicable) sorted alphabetically by tld... there are even some future tlds in there, which despite not being generally available yet, the whois servers are already working.

there are 450+ lines in the current whmcs release, but when I finished 'M' last night, its already got to 700+ lines - so the complete list will be at least 2-3 times the size of the current whoisservers file.

the new list covers all (cc)tlds that have a working port 43 whois or can be searched via a web whois form - so the only tlds that should be missing from the list are those with no port 43 whois; any that use captcha on their web whois forms; and web whois forms displaying the levels are in a dropdown - there are quite a few of them.

if WHMCS could tweak their code, perhaps with some form of flag option, then we could search those forms with dropdowns by sending the domain (mydomain) and tld (.org) as separate variables... currently it just sends the whole domain (mydomain.org) to the form... unless i'm missing something!

it occurred to me that before adding even more of the new tlds, and especially in relation to my modified domainchecker/adddomain/feeds project, I needed to ensure that the whoisservers list was up to date - although backups were made before updating, it was annoying that whmcs updates were overwriting our own updated whoisservers file and not even including the new tlds from the above thread.

once complete, and if there is interest, I will make the file available to others - though because of the length of time being spent on this project, i'm not sure whether I could just give it away... it might make more sense to recoup the time by selling the updated encoded replacement whoisservers.php file for a relatively low amount (maybe £10GBP) with updates for a year... with perhaps an unencoded open-source version available for more...

I doubt that WHMCS are going to update the whoisserver list to the degree that I am currently doing, nor would I expect them to keep it constantly updated so that new tlds are added to the list *before* they become generally available!

Seems fair, keep us updated please
