Forum AddOn

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm happy to announce that Forum AddOn for WHMCS has just released. After 5 years experiance on developing modules for vBulletin, and with a portfolio of over 25 of them, I do believe that I had the knowledge to release a Forum Module for WHMCS.

Instead to write what it includes is better to say what the current version does NOT includes;

  1. Polls
  2. PM system

Why it does not includes PM system?

PMs are fine if you're operating a community. But as I know 95% of you, are operating a Hosting company, or Software company, or something similar. By adding PMs, the only happy part should be your members as they'll have another way to bomb you with the same question. You know very well that, there are sooooo many impatient members who want a reply right now. That's why they post in forum, they send PM, and of course they open a support ticket too. All of them for the same issue.

PMs will also make happy your competitors as they'll give a free way to contact in private your members. Don't know if you've the same experiance, or I was the only unlucky coder/webmaster who faced such situations.

In any case, I'll not say No to my clients to add this feature, but for sure I'll not use it on my own installation.

Price

I believe that for 4,000+ lines of code, the price is cheap comparing with other WHMCS Modules. The Lifetime Owned License with 12 months Support and Upgrades costs $79.95. This price also includes Brand Free files, something that most companies sell as seperate option.

You can download a Trial version (expires on 11 Feb 2011) from:

http://www.whmcsadvanced.com/ForumTrial.zip

Please note that deletion of Forums is deactivated in Trial version.

Installation:

  1. Unpack the zip file and upload all files inside the whmcs directory to your whmcs installation.
  2. Login to your Admincp and activate the Module Forum Addon
  3. Configure:

    1. General Settings (Ignore the license key)
    2. Add Forums (Unlimited depth of Forums)
    3. Modify the default Usergroups
    4. Add Moderators
    5. Very Important

Only those who already have an account in your WHMCS installation can Activate an account in Forums.

Adding a link to your menu

You must add a menu to your template to point to forum.php. eg for the Portal template, you must edit the footer.tpl and add:

      <li><a href="forum.php"><img src="templates/{$template}/images/icons/forum.png" alt="Forum" width="16" height="16" border="0" class="absmiddle" /></a> <a href="forum.php" title="Forum">Forum</a></li>

      Enjoy it

      Maria

Hello

Did you add the suggestions i recommended in previous thread ?

Custom field on the registration/checkout form for forum username, And auto activate forum account

Cheers

Not yet, and I'm not sure if I'll add such a feature. It's a bit complicated as I'm using Ajax for username check and I don't like to modify the native WHMCS templates. Actually it's no different that the current way that I'm using. Every client who is visiting the forum is seeing a button at the top center "Activate your Forum Account".

Great work Maria!

Thank you:) If it goes well on sales (not so much, just an average level), I can do it to ...dance in the near future. I've many ideas in my mind. eg an auto community newsletter which will contains the last forum forum activity.

Also I need to study a bit more the widget technology, to be able to add widgets like Latest post, popular posts etc.

Looks good.

Widgets are fairly simple.

Pretty much you can run any of your php code and take in any $_GET variables. After you finish your code execute any values you wish to return and display on the page is done through a javascript write command :)

Thank you :idea::D

Hi,

When they browse the forum they see the option to activate their account, they are asked for whmcs login/password and it's ok? do they have the option to use a nickname? can i see a demo somewhere, or a complete feature list/presentation?

seems a good idea if i can restrict posting to customers only. does it have SEF urls?

Regards,

Posts are viewable by all but only clients can post. By saying "Clients" I mean all those who have an account in the WHMCS installation. So, if you allow registrations only to your clients, only those can post in forums. If registration in WHMCS is available to all, all can post in forums.

No, currently there are no friendly URLs. Demo: http://www.microhellas.com/forum.php (you need to create an account).

very nice, not sure if this has been covered in this thread if so i overlooked it:

-Will clients be forced to use a nickname? (prefer this for privacy reasons)

-Will the source be open? (nothing against you but i have had issues with coders vanishing and whmcs updates made addons not function)

Thanks

1.- Yes. They must use a nickname, even if my first thought was to use the real name. Don't forget that by using WHMCS means that you community is not a hobbist one. But later on I decided to use nicknames and have an editable field for first name.

2.- That's my hell. Working for vBulletin and following the fact that it has visible code, I used to release addons (have more than 25) with 100% visible source code. With WHMCS is different. WHMCS itsselft is encrypted, and all the addons (even the simpliest) are also encrypted. So, I must follow this path here. The only different is that the license check will take place just once during the initial installation.
