Previous cart contents lost when continue shopping

Hi,

When you add the second product to the cart, are you using the same domain as the original product by any chance?

If so, this is the expected behaviour as WHMCS won't permit multiple products to be added to the cart with the same domain in order to prevent your clients from accidentally ordering duplicates.

Hi Harry,

that's weird... you can add multiple domains to the cart, but not hosting products...

the one thing that stands out to me is that when you order hosting, you are not asked to select a domain name - I wouldn't have thought it would cause your problem, but you could try adding the require domain option to your hosting products to see if it helps.

if you've tried another template, then it suggests a product setup issue and/or some hook limiting hosting products to 1.

I'm new to working with WHMCS so it's highly likely it's a misconfiguration on my part. As for adding the require domain option; this means people who already have a domain but want to transfer it to me won't be able to, without registering a new domain.

I'll have a dig around the setup again to see what could be causing this.

Many thanks for your input.

sorry, i've got lost in that sentence and I can't find my way out! i'm unsure if you're trying to prevent someone with an existing domain, transfer it to you as part of the ordering system, or would ideally like to enable the feature.... :?:

http://docs.whmcs.com/Domains_Tab

if you look at setup -> general settings -> domains, there are 3 checkboxes for domain registration, transfer and use own domain - ticking any will enable that option when ordering... unticked will disable the option...

if your hosting product has the "domain required" ticked, then they'll be presented with any of these ticked options, along with using a domain already in the cart...

Sorry, I did want potential customers to be able to order just hosting, or just domain names. If they wanted both, then they would just add whatever they needed. The adding to cart problem seems to be blocking that though. For the sake of speed and getting the site working, I'm just going to create packages of hosting and domain name - after all, that's what the vast majority of customers will actually want. It's unlikely anyone will want hosting without a domain name, I suppose.

what you should probably do with the site is...

1. make a strong (is there any other type?) mug of Yorkshire Tea. :)

2. go back to basics.

by that I mean, change your site template to one of the included versions (probably Default); change your order-form template to one of the included ones - and make sure that both templates are fresh and unaltered... clear the template cache and then take a look at the site again.

it seems to me that pressing "Continue Shopping" is wiping the cart - I had assumed one product was overwriting the other, but I think the session is being wiped by something... possibly a script somewhere or some incorrectly uploaded whmcs file - i'm hoping that going back to a pure whmcs template might resolve this for you.

if it does, then you can figure out which file is the problem - as pressing "Continue Shopping" definitely shouldn't do that!... if it doesn't, then its likely to be either a general whmcs and/or product misconfiguration.. at that stage, it might be worth opening a support ticket and letting the whmcs support guys take a look at your system.

i'm a big advocate of getting WHMCS working first and then tweaking the site design to suit your needs - never the other way around... because if something goes wrong, and you're unfamiliar with WHMCS, then it makes it more difficult to track where the problem actually is... if you have a working whmcs, and you tweak the template and something starts failing, then you know to look at the template.
