SteveR
Hi, Yesterday my installation of WHMCS worked, today it does not. That's despite me not changing anything so I can only assume that the latest update has been applied by cpanel/Installatron and that update has caused this issue. The error message I'm seeing is as follows: Admin Directory ConflictYou are attempting to access the admin area via a directory that is different from the one configured. Please refer to the Customising the Admin Directory documentation for instructions on how to update it. Additionally, I have never used anything but the default admin directory/setup. Any idea? Thanks

SteveR
Hmm, except that talks about 'fake admin folder' which I've never had or used. And I'm on a Linux system I'll post on the other thread anyway. Cheers

And I'm on a Linux system I'll post on the other thread anyway.Cheers try this, it worked for another user Okay, I managed to get in to the login page by setting the $customadminpath to a full relative path. My WHMCS is setup in a sub-directory so my path is /clients/mycustomadmindir. Never needed the /clients/ part before upgrading to 5.3.10.
SteveR
It seems that cpanel had originally installed the admin area scripts in a directory named with a random series of letters and numbers and that was what $customadminpath was set to. That folder did not seem to have been updated in more than three months. The recent update seems to have written to a folder named 'admin'. Changing $customadminpath to read 'admin' did the trick. I've always logged in to the 'admin' folder location without any problems. I'm assuming that $customadminpath was set to the cpanel installed randomly named dir right from the start and I haven't been using it. I'm a bit puzzled as to why this latest update has suddenly caused problems though. But at least it's all working again! Thanks Steve
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted September 18, 2014 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted September 18, 2014 I'm a bit puzzled as to why this latest update has suddenly caused problems though. But at least it's all working again!Hi,We added an extra check in v5.3.10 to ensure users were uploading the admin files to the correct location. This is explained in more detail in our release notes: http://docs.whmcs.com/Version_5.3.10_Release_Notes#Release_Notes I would recommend simply deleting the randomly named folder and removing the "$customadminpath = 'admin'" line from your configuration.php file.
SteveR
I've now removed the old randomly named folder and removed the config line as suggested. Everything appears to be running properly so I'm all good. Thanks for the additional info, much appreciated. Steve
merlinpa1969
Hi John, While I see you are trying to Idiot Proof the installation, there should be a switch to turn this off for those of us that actually know how this works and use the /admin folder as a honeypot.
SteveR
Hi John, While I see you are trying to Idiot Proof the installation, there should be a switch to turn this off for those of us that actually know how this works and use the /admin folder as a honeypot. Hi Merlinpa1969, I agree it's good that they're trying to 'idiot proof' the installation as you say, though I'd prefer to put it in a way that didn't insult paying users less experienced with WHMCS reading these forums, like me. About the update issues... New users will often install and update via the easiest route possible, which is via cPanel and Installatron. It's how I discovered WHMCS and It's quick, easy and should do updates reliably. Installatron set up my admin folder in a way that caused problems when this update was applied. And it's not the first update issue either. All too frequently when a new update is automatically applied it just breaks things. The update before this one the client areas stopped loading. In this one it was the admin folder issue and the affiliate pages stopped loading. I've disabled the auto-update now as I'm tiered of these issues and I'm happy to update manually. But I wonder how many users have instead just left WHMCS and found an alternative because of these frequent auto-update failures? I nearly did. Posting problems like this to the forums is a valid thing to do as it lets the developers know that there have been issues which in turn helps them to provide a smoother and better experience for all users, including you. CCSupport
OK, so, same issue here. Windows Server using custom admin folder path. How can I KEEP using the custom path and do the upgrade? In all honesty this kind of issue upon upgrade really makes me want to ditch WHMCS! It's annoying and time consuming. I read all the release notes prior to the upgrade...including case #5083, however I am still getting the 'Admin Directory Conflict'. Can someone (an Admin preferably) explain how on a Windows Server uploading all 'admin' files to the correct 'NewAdminFolder' can still break the admin area?! The correct custom path is configured as it's been for a couple of years. So far I have tried to delete the custom path, also rename the changed admin folder to 'admin'.....It annoys me that I have carried out the normal checks prior to an upgrade and it still breaks it and by the looks of it I am not alone **EDIT** Just applied the Windows Fix as mentioned above and on another post. This has now worked. So, it's great that we are now in, however it raises another question....why was this upgrade not tested on the Windows platform?! It worries me that it wasn't tested. It certainly could mean there are other issues with this update for the Windows platform users...
