theviewer1985
Hi Guys Today a client couldn't log on to her account on WHMCS. Please note this is to my WHMCS SITE DIRECTLY (Client portal)... not for her Cpanel or anything I went through the password reset with her, and the reset email got sent to her. We clicked the link which confirmed the reset and then awaited for the new password email as instructed. I did this twice, and the new password email never got sent In the end i had to log onto my admin side and do a reset that way... the email got sent to her straight away after i did that. What could be going wrong here? How can i diagnose it, i just dont know where to start On a side note, i am not very confident with the whole password part of WHMCS. Has anyone else had problems with it? It seems even when i try log into the client portal myself, it says "password wrong" on the first attempt and the second one works. And then this happened, where it just stopped working completely. Of course there is a chance I type it in wrong... but my typing is usually spot on and I get into every other site first time Any help appreciated
WHMCS Chris
Hello, In version 5.2, passwords are no longer emailed via the reset function. Instead, the user is directed to your website to establish a new password. If you're not receiving this, it indicates that you've not updated your templates during an upgrade causing this error.
theviewer1985
Firstly then, Id suggest changing the password reset template email in one of your updates to reflect the new methods in 5.2 Secondly thanks for your assistance. Although i wouldn't mind a little more help. Basically i got my template a year or so ago. Its heavily modified. But of course, it came before your 5.2 upgrade. The company don't offer any updates on their template... but everything seemed to work well so i wasnt to bothered. Untill this password issue of course What Im failing to understand though is how my old template is causing this problem? Effectively my template only consists of a header and a footer and everything inside it is WHMCS coding. When i click the link in the email it does take me to the site correctly and says the password reset has been authorized (or something similar) but no email gets sent... i just cant see why my template would be causing that So a little more explanation would be greatly appreciated... i may even be able to fix it :-D
brian!
I doubt WHMCS will help directly with the template - they won't know the changes that have been made and it will be your problem to fix it, not theirs! however, I think I ran into a similar problem patching my old bought template to 5.2.4 (or maybe 5.2.5)... what you should do is get a file comparison program, i'm using ultracompare but there are freeware alternatives (winmerge.org is one), and it allows you to compare files and also code between 2 or 3 files, or between folders. i'll cut a long story short - when comparing one of the new templates folders (I think default) to my template, there were files present in "default" that were not in my template... 'clientareasecurity.tpl' was one, 'clientarearecordslimit.tpl' was another... it's then a case of comparing the code between the two and seeing what needs to be copied across to your template from the v5.2.5 template. it's tedious to do, but it's the only way... luckily most of the files are the same (or were for my template!). just checking again, I can see that in my old template (before I fixed it), 'pwresetvalidation.tpl' is 366 bytes, but in the v5.2.5 default template version it's 1,780 bytes... so that's one place you may want to check, but ideally you should go through all the files and compare them... you'll have to do the same once v5.3 comes out and each subsequent update, but bringing the template upto v5.2.5 will be the bigger step. theviewer1985
Just to confirm quickly, i wasnt implying that WHMCS should help me fix my template. It was more of a case that I wanted more information as I had no idea my template would effect the core WHMCS files. However you were spot on with your post, and I have fixed my issue and noticed Im missing lots of new features aswell so tomorrow is the crappy task of sorting through every single folder and seeing what I can merge across. Thankyou very much for your help!
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted July 24, 2013 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted July 24, 2013 Hi, No need to go through every template, just the "Template Changes" listed in our release notes: http://docs.whmcs.com/Release_Notes
