ryan311
We have about 15,000 customers in WHMCS. We're currently on 5.0.3. I'm seeing a lot of bugs on 5.1 and I'm hesitant to upgrade. Thoughts? That and it seems support is completely useless at this point, not my experience but what I'm hearing on the forums. So if we're screwed we can't get support. Sounds like I answered my own question...
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted September 24, 2012 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted September 24, 2012 Hi, The forums are always going to contain a disproportionate amount of people reporting problems - it's where they go when they have one. A quantifiable way to see how many issues they really are is to look at how many patches have been issued for this version vs previous versions: http://forum.whmcs.com/forumdisplay.php?27-Bug-Reports Again, if your support experience is good, then don't let that put you off. Matt did make an announcement earlier in the month to address the issues I guess you're referring to here: http://blog.whmcs.com/?t=57970

I think that as quantifiable as it may be, it's also not a reliable estimate for the number of bugs and issues in the release. ryan311, if you want to find out if you should upgrade - get a test instance, or do the upgrade (after making a full backup) and test yourself. Everyone's setup is a bit different and you may very well run into far more, or far less problems than most. Myself, I ran the latest version for about 12 minutes before I rolled back, your milage may vary.

The numerous threads about domain problems were mostly post-patch.
DigitalEnigma
Hi, There are patches that have not been posted in the patch thread for v5.1.2, we finally upgraded to 5.1.2 and ran into issues with domains renewing but dates not getting updated the patch on the forum did not fix this and a patch from support was required. We had an issue with the mass mail tool and being unable to preview the messages before sending, again direct patch from support was needed. There is an issue with mass mail and not being able to enable/disable the rich text editor, no fix for this until next release. SagePay Token module does not work, fix for this is coming in next release - should never have been included in 5.1.2 as it does not work and was reported and acknowledged pre-release. New admin home page is slow, very slow. We have this on its own dedicated box and the admin page hangs whilst loading in all the graphs - prior to the upgrade with the new graphs this did not happen.
LDHosting
Due to the reported problems, inconsistent advice from staff ("There are no problems to patch!" "All of the patches are in the bugs forum" "Contact support directly for the patch") and the slow support response times, we will not even consider upgrading until a new version is released.
Vox
Hi ryan311, Sounds like I answered my own question... Yep, I'm not making a move at the moment........ Given that the last officially posted 5.1 patch fix in Bug Reports was July 21 but the same thread is littered with posts indicating that they have received a "fix" and "just ask Support for a copy of it" I would recommend waiting for an incremental release. Give the developers time to gather their thoughts and stabilise/test the changes.
ryan311
Agreed ... we're waiting or moving to http://zuora.com/. Just a matter of what gets working/integrated first. I'm thinking it's Zuora.
Nexxterra
Every software or script provider I have ever used and I have been using software for a zillion years uses the format Major VER. Minor Update. Bug/fixes that is except for WHMCS, as the bugs get fixed the numbers stay the same, even the date of the file stays the same... You have NO clue if what you are getting is included, even if it is in the bug fix, there is no indication it made it to the download file.
durangod
Yep i am waiting as well, no way im going to dive into this pool of dark cold water that no telling what you will find on the bottom, if there is one lol..
Terra
I wish I could also wait but we're using Nominet as registrar, so are being forced to upgrade or our Nominet integration will break on 1/Nov when Nominet switches off their old system. Nothing like being caught between a rock and a hard place.

easyhosting
since we upgraded ( after testing on a dev licence) we only have 1 issue which has been fixed and that was an issue with invoices being generated but not sent out to clients after a quick response from WHMCS support and a patch this was corrected. the issue was with the text editior used in 5.1.2. in version 5.1.3 when its released they are reverting back to the TinyMCE editor
Vox
in version 5.1.3 when its released they are reverting back to the TinyMCE editor Thanks for the update. Sounds promising in the post here as well: http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?59886-So-Pleased-with-Support&p=266450#post266450
epode
We're being forced by Nominet to upgrade to WHMCS v5.1 but the current version (v5.1.2) appears to be causing some problems which will hopefully be fixed in the next version ... but when will it be available? Any ideas?
sparky
I have just upgraded finally to V5.1.2 with all of the patches that I could find and so far so good. A couple of changes that I had to do like the netearthone domain sync that I customised had to be updated along with a few extra customisations. All good so far and starting to make changes to the new template as well. V5.1.3 is supposed to be out in beta very soon... the last that I heard it should be this week but I supose it will be here when it's ready and no sooner.
epode
Thanks. Is there a 'one stop source' for the patches or do we just wait to see what's broken and then search for a solution to fix it?
sparky
These are the main ones that you will need http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.php?51266-V5-1-Patches I can't understand why they are not in the download archive already. (they weren't in the version I got anyway)
epode
Thanks very much for that, Sparky.
