DistributeIT - Hacked

The DistributeIT ROR will remain as is. Netregistry do own it now, but will soon be utilising their TPP business as a wholseale business only. The DistributeIT system will be given management features similar to TPP. The current DistributeIT module for WHMCS will remain functional as is.

The problem with AussieHQ is they retail pretty much at wholseale prices. DistributeIT and the new TPP will not be retailing.

Cheers,

Paul

True, DIT and TPP will not be retailing but their other brand will be - for $20.95. So they're reseller brand will be more expensive then their wholesale brand.

Take a look at the history of NR and you'll find that they have no issue marketing to all clients under any brand.

Once bitten, twice shy.

My point was that TPP/DIT will not sell retail under those same names nor link to their other sites.

AussieHQ do, as they are listed as the Registrar on WHOIS information.

So a WHOIS, by your customer, on their domain registered with AussieHQ means it's easy for them to find a better price by simply going to the registrar AussieHQ.... especially if your business is selling higher than your wholesaler. :-)

Solution?: AussieHQ bring out a new ROR "brand" that is purely wholesale and no links to AussieHQ. ;)

Cheers,

Paul

PS If under any circumstances NR abuse their AUDA agreement and lookup customer details from the domain database then they will be in big trouble by AUDA and could loose their registrar status. NR are of course entitled to contact customers direct if they find their details by some other means. eg A customer has contacted NR in the past and left their details; has had a domain with NR in the past; or any other legitimate marketing method.

I understood your point Paul.

AussieHQ are already in the process of getting the whois entry changed to be more generic. Either way if a client can manage to navigate their way through a whois entry they'll very easily find who the parent company of TPP is.

As it is today the TPP website lists and links to the parent company and another brands in the footer of all pages.

Netregistry • Ziphosting • Company registration • © 2011 TPP Domains Pty Ltd. All Rights Reserved

We don't rely on profit from au domain sales and the au domain registration space has become very transparent. We do charge a margin but our clients understand that we provide a service on top of any products we offer.

Hi Damo,

Yes at the moment TPP it is not transparent (so we are keeping ours with DIT for the time being). Apparently that is what they plan to do though. Only time will tell.

We had one tech customer that whilst they used WHOIS to see that we used DIT, did not bother to take it any further as the pricing was not listed on the DIT website. ;)

AussieHQ making WHOIS more transparent is a step in the right direction.

Out of curiosity, what WHMCS module do you use for AussieHQ domains?... as its not listed as a supported Domain Registrar.

Cheers,

Paul

AussieHQ supply a module, it's available to download from their domain management area.

It works brilliantly, as does their management area.

In fact, it's the best of any of them - a huge timesaver.

Now if we can get them to price their retail domains more sensibly!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well as I said I started to move my AU domains to AussieHQ and I am afraid to say that I had nothing but problems from support lacking or being very slow to all contact details for every domain being either not imported correctly or getting corupted.

I have since opened a reseller account with MelbourneIT and have had nothing but great and quick support responses.

Mind you I did have to write a registrar module for MelbourneIT and all works well now so far so I can make it available.

The AU domains are $2 more that AussieHQ but I would pay the extra and get the better and correct support.

Anyone wanting to check out the melbourneit experience then send me an email and I'll put you onto the right guy to get it sorted. The application is a bit more legalised with the aggreement that needs to be signed but it doesnt take long to sort it out.

Once again a happy camper!

Sounds interesting.

I have just requested pricing from them, so we will see if they are an option. :)

We were a reseller of MelbIT many, many years ago, but that was when our buy price was $120 for .com.au domains! lol

Cheers,

Paul

Dear xxxxx,

We identified significant inconsistencies within the DistributeIT partner pre-paid credit balances and as a result on 29th June 2011 a decision was made to temporarily set all partners credit balances to zero whilst we undertook a process of reconciling accounts.

After reconstructing the May and June transaction reports, we have now completed this reconciliation process and updated the Partner Console system accordingly. For all resellers with credits greater than $100, we have topped up your pre-paid balance in the Partner Console system.

Please understand that this was a very time consuming and complicated reconciliation process and we were unfortunately unable to manually investigate credits less than $100. However, if your credit balance is less than $100 or you believe your credit balance is incorrect please contact the Finance Team directly with your transactional information at resellercredits@distributeit.com.au - all requests prior to 31st August will be investigated.

We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences that this may have caused over the last two weeks. If you have any questions regarding this reconciliation process, please contact us resellercredits@distributeit.com.au

Yours sincerely,

Finance Team

Strange how they were able to do this automatically for accounts with a balance greater than $100, yet everyone else has to go through a manual investigation.

The worst part is that it will be hard to argue what the correct balance will be, as DistributeIT never sent it as part of any e-mail correspondence from them.
