irdeto
Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you out there are offering clients a 2 week trial account or 30 day account? And for those of you who are doing so, how are you combatting customers who are filling out bogus address details, etc just to get the account? At the moment I am just manually terminating them. I was interested to know how some of you do it? Im getting at least 2 bogus ones a day. If this continues I will terminate the free trial product - but I would rather not.
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted August 5, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted August 5, 2010 We use Maxmind, which seems to work pretty well. If nothing else it forces fraudsters to use an address near their IP location.

laszlof
Maxmind is included with WHMCS bought directly from them. up to 1000 transactions a month. Login to your client area and scroll to the bottom.
CDDHosting
I agree with John, Using maxmind would be your best option. Why not just offer money back guarantee? It will cut down on the amount of spam also.
ExsysHost
we use maxmind... but free accounts seem to blast right through even though the the fraud score is the same as an order that is blocked

Austdata
Try offering a 30 day money back guarantee instead. Then if the details are bogus, you can keep the money.
sparky
Try offering a 30 day money back guarantee instead. Then if the details are bogus, you can keep the money. More than likely the credit card details would have been stolen as well and in that case you are better to refund the money else you will more than likely cop a chargeback.
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted August 23, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted August 23, 2010 Yes, in that case it's best to refund the payment (or cancel the pre-auth) to save you the hassle of a chargeback.
TheHostingHeroes
Hi Years ago we tried 14 day free trial accounts, but it did just generate allot of fraud! so we got rid of this! Maxmind is really good. You can upgrade it if you pay.. we use the maxmind telephone service too, so it also calls their phone number to validate they have entered a correct phone number.
