itch
I asked the guys at WHMCS how many users they have, knowing they were probably going to say that they can't disclose that info. They did in fact say that. So... my question is: 1. Can anyone tell me more or less how many whmcs users there are? 2. Is it more than 50 000? more than 200 000? More than 1 million? 3. And how did you come to decide on this number?
HostOrca
No one but whmcs themselves are going to be able to answer this question. As only whmcs will have the figures.
scurrell
We've got a license. Does that help?
itch
I also have one.... so that's 2 confirmed hits. Haha. Maybe I should set up a poll, for people to vote on if they use it. But that will only really be seen the users on this site, which again does not help me. :-/ Hmmm...
minadreapta
do you really need to know that? and why?
itch
We are working on <<a template site>>, and it would be very useful to know if we even have a market before doing loads of development. [we've already started and probably won't stop regardless, but it would be quite reassuring to know] And surely there must be SOMEONE that can make an educated guess? So far, I can only guess that there should beat least 22 000 users, as there are 22 000 users on the forum. But that could also be a fluke, seeing as not all users would necessarily have their own whmcs license. I was thinking of trying to do a google search for a specific piece of code that ALL whmcs installation must have, but I haven't really found what to look for yet. WHMCS are correct in not disclosing these figures as they are govenrned by UK laws and also their is no legal reason why you need these figures. does templatemonster etc. need to know how many internet users their are to start making templates NO. Fair enough, but like I said, it would be NICE to know. It's not going to stop us from completing the site, but it would really help to have an idea of what we are in for. bear
Completely unscientific, as it will return any pages with this (and none of the unbranded ones), but: "Results 1 - 10 of about 3,090,000 for "Powered by WHMCompleteSolution"" There are a few. dansgalaxy
Completely unscientific, as it will return any pages with this (and none of the unbranded ones), but:"Results 1 - 10 of about 3,090,000 for "Powered by WHMCompleteSolution"" There are a few. Ah but does that result include dupe pages? eg Hostsite.com/whmcs/page1.php & page2.php both of which will have that... Also doesn't include all the installs which aren't indexed... and the ones whihc paid not to have the pwoered by... or the ones which maybe use it for non-public use? lol not to mention the test licenses... Would be very interesting to know though I must say... While on one hand I can understand why WHMCS might not like to disclose how many licenses they have running (probably because people would realise how fantasticly well off WHMCS Ltd is probably doing!) but it might be a good selling point... I mean if the figures are as high as i expect (at least 50K + licenses) being able to say "We support over 100,000,000 web hosts!" is quite an achievement and comforting to users wanting to buy knowing that WHMCS is very unlikely to packup and stop trading any time soon
bear
Ah but does that result include dupe pages? Hence the "unscientific" remark. Totally anecdotal result, since I'd have no way of knowing the actual number.

WHMCS does not need to disclose how many licences they have running. you dont need this information to see how well off WHMCS linited are, as for 1GBP you can apply to companies house for a copy of their last audited accounts. so this is not the reason WHMCS are witholding this information. WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted April 26, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted April 26, 2010 It's also rather difficult to obtain an accurate figure as we offer several types of license and product/services other than just the licenses themselves. bear's guess would be quite an over estimate
bear
Wasn't actually a guess, John. I was just showing what Google returned for the tagline, and mentioned it was "anecdotal", since it could include even pages that are simply asking about the tagline...it was tongue in cheek. I'd say it was somewhere between 10 and that number, if I had to actually guess.
dansgalaxy
I'd take a guess at around 5 - 15K licenses/users. Im working this on the assumption that WHMCS has around 3-4 (presumably) paid employees/owners and that they are on a reasonable salary and factoring out rough costs and actual profit. sgrayban
I did some TCP packet sniffing with WHMCS just to see if they might be using some url tracking codes -- and behold they do track quiet a lot of info that they do not disclose in any terms or documentation which might violate some privacy laws especially in the US and the UK.
