  1. I'm running version 5.2.17, but when I log in the Spotlight still tells me a security update is available. Must I updalte to version 5.3.6 for security reasons, or am I ok? Thanks in advance.
  2. I'm not sure whether this is the right place to ask or not. I'm trying to find a solution to offer VPS solutions through WHMCS and I don't know where to begin. I was originally planning to use Xen, but I could be easily convinced to switch to something else as nothing has been configured yet. What are you using? Why? Does it work well for you? If this isn't the right forum for me, please feel free to suggest another. Thanks. Jeff
  3. I did delete the payment transaction. I just brought up the invoice on it's own (not just the list of that client's invoices) and marked it as paid by mail-in. The transaction now shows up as paid by mail-in, but the invoice still shows up as a PayPal invoice. I'm guessing it can't be changed, and I'm just going to leave it. Thanks, Joe. Jeff
  4. A client set up to pay by PayPal sent in a payment. I deposted the check and manually marked the invoice as paid. The invoice now shows up as paid by PayPal. It shouldn't. I've tried marking the invoice as unpaid, changing the gateway type, and then marking the invoice as paid again. No luck. The PayPal payment information sticks. Any way to fix this? Thanks. Jeff
  5. That did, it thanks. Setting was "UTC" The correct setting was "America/Los_Angeles". Now all is good. Jeff
  6. My WHMCS installation (5.2.5) always uses GMT. Invoices, emails, everything. My defalt timezone for the server is America/Los_Angeles. the linux date command returns the correct date and time. I've tried the additions to configuration.php I've found in these forums: date_default_timezone_set, putenv("TZ=America/Los_Angeles"), and everything else I could find. OS is CentOS 5.9. PHP version is 5.4.15. Any ideas how I can change it to use localtime? Thanks. Jeff
  7. Can you explain what you mean by With SolusVM you are more restricted? Thanks. Jeff
  8. It would appear from your post that you don't want to use PayPal. Have you looked at 2CheckOut? They're a bit more expensive, but they may fit your needs. Jeff
  9. Is PayPal reporting working yet?
  10. I thought I'd read in these forums that the old DirectI module worked with one account and the user never had his/her own account at ResellerClub, but that the new ResellerClub module did give everyone their own account. I'm following up a suggestion I've gotten in a telephone call with Chris Pelling at Net Earth One two days ag; I'll see how that pans out, and if positive I'll report back. Jeff
  11. Those of you who are switching to OnApp... would you be kind enough to explain what drove your decision? And if you would, please point me to a plugin for OnApp; I can't find it on the WHMCS site. Thanks. Jeff
  12. I'd be much happier if they let us choose the cutoff day. Instead of 30 days, I might choose 45 days or 60 days. Jeff
  13. Yes I'm aware of the issue. I pointed out that all the registrars I've worked with appear to do it as well. And I pointed out a way to use exim.pl script to keep them from going out. But I agree it would be nicr to be able to turn them off. Sorry if I was a bit confusing in my reply. Jeff
  14. What do you use to manage your VPS offering? Sorry I missed the mis-spelling in the title; I can't edit it. We're going to set up a brand new VPS offering, along with complete WHMCS support. We want to get it as automated as possible. Brand new is good; there's no old infrastructure to require compatibility, but it's also scary: what if we make the wrong decision? There appear to be a few modules available for a few options... but I'm not sure which way to go. OpenVZ with SolusVM, Xen with SolusVM, KVM with SolusVM ? Or Servarica with Citrus Xen ? Or something else I've missed? Which do you use? And why? This enquiring mind wants to know. Thanks. Jeff
  15. Lots of domain reseller systems do this; I believe it's done by the LogicBoxes (i.e., ResellerClub, NEO, etc.) system as well. You really shouldn't turn off your own settings, because if you do, some uses will get only one notice, at the last minute, for a domain expiring in less than 24 hours. Not sure I like this, but I can live with it, even without configuration. If you really want to turn it off, and you're using exijm, I suppse you could create something in exim.pl to read the subject of the email, and null-route the email with the matching subject line. Jeff
  16. Since I wrote the SpamBlocker exim.conf file for DirectAdmin, you can probably guess my answer . We not only give the benefits to our clients, but we give the file away to the entire DirectAdmin community as a free download. And the publishers of DirectAdmin give away an earlier version as an integral part of DirectAdmin. We once bought out a small hosting company using a third-party solution, but we weaned those clients off the third party solution as we moved them to our servers, and I can't recall a single one that complained about an increase in spam. If I recall correctly, cPanel also uses exim, so it's probably easy enough to implement my solution in cPanel if you'd like to play with it, and if you know anything about how Google works, I'm sure I've written enough about it so you can find it. Jeff
  17. Years ago we set up a reseller account with Dotster. No real automation, but the site was fully configurable and it looked just like ours. Then years later we started using Logic Boxes (as used by ResellerClub, NEO, etc.). We offerred our clients on Dotster lower pricing to let us move their registration for them, and most said yes. Some didn't, and we just let them continue to renew through our Dotster reseller platform. But Dotster was sold, and they switched to a new system. No customization to speak of; we couldn't even install our logo and when people logged in to their account it said "My Webhost" (couldn't be changed). And there was no longer a way to turn off the offering of Dotster webhosting to our webhosting clients. Their tech support team suggested we just show it at selling for $1,000/month so our clients wouldn't order it. Sounds like a great geek solution, but we're marketers as well as geeks, and it didn't sound good to us. So we had to move them all in a hurry. By that time there were hunder a hundred domains left there, so we took over their accounts... We found out by happy accident that when we did a change of email address they didn't notify our users, so we changed the email address to our own inside address. Then we transferred all the domains to one account in the LogicBoxes platform, our name and email address, and 'proxy private registration'. We've been sending out our own renewal notices, and when the clients pay, we move the domain to their own account on our new platform, and send them the login details. Yes, we notified them all when we started doing it (we told them we were changing our back-end systems to one which would offer them free features with their registrations, and slightly lower pricing ongoing as well. So far all have renewed, though one late (we sent his DNS to our own 'expired' page for a while until he finally contacted us to pay late). We may end up with a few we own ourselves and need to figure out whether to keep, sell, or abandon, but in all, it was worth it. Jeff
  18. I've noticed plugins available for WHMCS which include Domain management through WHMCS without the need for the user logging into a Logic Boxes (ResellerClub, NEO, etc.) account. My understanding from looking at those modules was that they could be used to eliminate the need to log into a ResellerClub account. Does anyone know? Are any plugins available that give you enough control over DNS & nameservers so you don't need to give out LogicBoxes account login details? Jeff
  19. I can't respond to Alex's post because it's been years since I used 2CheckOut. For many years I've used both PayPal and a traditional Merchant Account, and I've done the math... and yes, It's possible, if you don't run enough business through a Merchant Account, that it'll cost you more. That's a niche that PayPal, 2CheckOut and others cater to. But as you do more with your merchant account you eventually end up paying less. Personally, I don't think the decision should be based on which is cheaper, but rather on which will make your clients feel more comfortable dealing with you. And that's why we use both. We use PayPal for clients who feel more comfortablel clicking to pay us each month, and we use our Merchant Account for our clients who could rather give us their card number once and not worry again. One thing I can address, since I did look at 2CheckOut's rates a few months ago: 2CheckOut is much more expensive than is PayPal; if you can get PayPal, and if your customers will use it (a percentage of mine will; even those without their own PayPal account) it can save you a lot of money over 2CheckOut. Jeff
  20. I'm setting up (not live yet) on a separate server in a separate datacenter in a separate city, on a different power grid, and with connectivity from diffeent upstream providers. And far enough away from each other that even a major earthquake is unlikely to affect both. Not only for security, but also so that my management system will be available to my clients even in the admittedly unlikely event that our entire datacenter goes down. Jeff
  21. I didn't download it yet; I tend to move slowly. I've been waiting to see replies, but I've since talked to two friends who use it, so I'll move forward with it. If i recall correctly, it's: Authorize.net CIM Jeff
  22. Replying very late3 to this thread to point out that if you use your PayPal Debit Card at a Chase ATM they don't charge the foreign card fee. You still have to pay the $1 to PayPal, but Chase doesn't charge a fee on the withdrawal. At least not so far for me. I was told that the reason is that PayPal debit cards are through Chase. I sometimes get the warning screen but I've never been charged the fee. Another thing you can do is get cash-back at a Supermarket; they often have fairly high cash-back limits, and the entire transaction is treated as a purchase so there's no fee. I used to do that but it was driving my accountant crazy, so I now just use my local Chase (less than 1/4 mile from home) to withdraw cash, and pay the dollar. Or if I have the time, I let them transfer the funds to my business checking account. Another thing I like about PayPal is they're very pro-active on finding fraudulent use. I remember one time my card was compromised and used in card-present transactions (don't ask me how; I still had the card in my pocket) five separate transactions in four separate locations, all within ten miles of my home, within one hour. PayPal noticed the pattern, and called to warn me before I was even aware of the problem. And don't forget PayPal will (if you set it up) notify you by email in real-time, of all card usage. All of the above, and the small rewards payout (as a credit to my PayPal account every month) make using the card worth it to me, and my accountant treats PayPal as if it were just another bank account.
  23. After last week, I've decided to go with CIM with my migration to WHMCS. Did you get your problem resolved?
  24. Thanks, Lar. Done, tested, and changed anyway to an undisclosed location (not the default mentioned in the installation instructions, as a bit of added security). Jeff
  25. We're installing WHMCS on a server configured with mod_ruid2. Which means that files do not have to world writable, as everything is run as the username. Is it still required that we use 777 permissions for files WHMCS must write, or can we get away with 755 permissions? Has anyone done this?
