bibleman
Since I upgraded to V4 of WHMCS, i am unable to stay logged on for 10 straight minutes because my login session expires the moment my IP changes. How can I solve this problem? Thanks
mojowill
why does your IP change whist your on the internet? WHMCS logs you in using cookies im sure they are only valid from one IP at a time so if your IP is changing the cookie is no longer valid. Forget WHMCS i would be more worried by my IP changing every 10 mins!
jozeph
Not solve. Just don't change IP to login again. This is a security feature and is completely fine.

Forget WHMCS i would be more worried by my IP changing every 10 mins! Cookies are valid from any IP, otherwise you'd have to re-login every time you change IP addresses with every system/forum you use. *Some* cookies encode an IP address and ccheck for a change though, that's why you see the IP-dependent behaviour ...
bibleman
Like I said earlier, I did not experience this when using version 3.8. I was thinking V4 will have an option, like plesk does, that says: "Allow IP changes during one session"
Miron
Same issue. Worst scenario is when you're writing long replies to support ticket and after click on Submit you see Login page :-( Then all is gone, spend time and reply, so you need write complete reply again. It happening to me almost once per day. It's crazy.
richardmyers
I've noticed this when I'm away and using a dodgy/slow EDGE connection, it's a bit of a ball ache at times.

ckh
I've had this problem also when using my iPhone and trying to answer a support ticket while on the local tram. IP changes often and it was really a pain trying to get a ticket answered.
Si
I've had this problem also when using my iPhone and trying to answer a support ticket while on the local tram. IP changes often and it was really a pain trying to get a ticket answered. ditto - tried to use my iphone today on 3G to reply to 3 tickets (I was stationary in a restaurant). Gave up after 30 minutes trying to do something that should have taken 4-5 at most. The point of having an iphone and paying my data charges each month is so I can do support wherever. Now - I can't. This needs sorted - pronto.
cmo
I also must say that I regularly encounter this kind of problem.
Si
I'm just about to go off for a few days holdiay (which I presume a lot of one man hosting enterprises are), and will be connecting via my iphone and dongle so will be encountering my IP address changing frequently - I would find it ironic that I've invested heavily in finding the right apps for my iphone, (ftp, good browser, password management and email client), only to find the main software for communication between myself and my customers (WHMCS) causes me to have to go looking for wi-fi spots and internet cafes. :-( bummer
Tsigner.net
i have the same issue since my internet connection basically based on 3.5 G internet mobile although iam using it via pc as well iam sure support will resolve this issue they told me they are adding an option in 4.1 to disable the session hijacking protection. i just rolled back to my exversion waiting for 4.1 so people like me have dynamic ip should wait for 4.1 where an option to disable the session hijacking protection is available
Si
Man this is sooooo bad. REALLY bad. Whoever thought up this protection needs taken out the back and well and truly whipped. I've just had a nightmare day with my iphone and WHMCS. Disaster. It can't continue like this. This has just made WHMCS practically unusable with a mobile. Nightmare. Matt - can this be sorted PRONTO? Holidays approach and I don't fancy having to look for internet cafe's when I should be on the beach. QUESTION: What's the point in having a 'REMEMBER ME UNTIL I LOG OUT' check box if you get force logged out anyhow.

Si
I've had a support ticket reply from Matt regarding this: Quote: Using it on a USB dongle should be ok but we are aware of issues with iPhone's and other mobile devices. It is a security protection related to session hijacking to verify the IP but we have already stated in another thread that we'll be adding an option to disable it in 4.1. Si
I hope 4.1 is coming soon. Just got back from 4 days away and it was a nightmare. Took most of my holiday with my family to keep on top of simple tasks. Logged in one minute, out the next. Disaster. Got to bed at 1.30am one morning, to answer to support tickets and update a customers account. 90 minutes to do simple stuff. Going off again in 4-5 days for a week and this is a serious issue. Even if there was a fix it would be appreciated.
Ivanner
In my office they use several IP address and round-robin router. So sometimes I go with one IP, other I go with another. And as stated by someone earlier in this thread, answering a ticket or checking something on WHMCS via EDGE, iPhone or mobile connection is near to impossible.
KingJ
I ran into this while using Vodafone's Mobile Broadband while on holiday, despite being stationary with a good signal and consistent connection, at one point my IP was changing every minute which made doing anything on WHMCS a real pain. This seems to be just a one time issue however. While I appreciate this is to prevent session hijacking, could the IP match be slackened? Most mobile broadband and phone internet providers have a range that is no greater than one /24. If WHMCS detects that you are accessing it from a different /24 from what your cookie was issued to, then perhaps it could reject you.
Arf
I would like to suggest that a solution be developed where users can enter one or more IPs and an IP block to white list. Clearly, not every ISP provided dedicated IP addresses and thus they can change regularly (every minute to every 10 minutes at times). It looks like the programmers didn't realize that this occurs. None the less, it's enough to drive one insane and resent such a nice program. I have to log back in several times every hour and every time I do, WHMCS vaporizes the last screen of updates. This security feature is making the product very difficult to use for those of us who have IPs that change regularly.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted November 10, 2009 WHMCS CEO Share Posted November 10, 2009 A setting was added some time back to disable this if you have a dynamic IP. Look under General Settings > Security for that option. Matt
Dedigeeks-Sean
For some reason in 4.1.2 I am always logged out of WHMCS when I change pages? I can access the WHMCS from my iPhone and it stays logged in all the time? Sean
