Register domain before payment

Hello!

What happens if on customer's domain tab I press the button REGISTER before the customer pays? I guess the registration proceeds, but my doubt is: When he pay, it will be added an additional year to the domain?

I want to register a domain to a well know customer before he pays but I'm afraid of giving him a free year.

Thanks

interesting question... so after invoice is generated, but before the client has paid.... hmm, if he doesn't need to interact directly with the registrar in the client area for this domain in the short-term, then I would be tempted to switch the registrar of this domain to another, e.g None or Email, and ensure that Create A ToDo List Entry in enabled... that way, when the client pays, WHMCS will be unable to communicate with the registrar to renew the domain again and will create a todo entry instead... once invoice is marked as paid, then you can reassign the correct registrar back to the domain; check/update the ND and expiry dates are correct (even if syncing i'd still check manually) and then delete/mark as completed the todo entry.

for the record, the official WHMCS method would be as per below...

In some rare circumstances, you may wish to prevent an invoice payment from triggering an automated renewal attempt. This is useful for scenarios in which the domain has been renewed manually or externally outside of WHMCS prior to payment having been made.

To do this, we recommend the following workaround:

  1. Locate the invoice for the domain (click the View Invoices link on the domain page to jump straight to a list of invoices for just that domain)
  2. Copy the line item and amount for the domain from the existing line to a new invoice line item
  3. Click Save Changes
  4. Delete the original line item from the invoice

By doing the above, you are removing the hidden link to the domain record and therefore on payment, no automation will be triggered. Note that neither the domain renewal automation, nor updating of the domains next due date will occur.

Can WHMCS create automated  todo entry ? How to enable this ?
