Thanks for your report,  we've been able to replicate this issue on our end as well. Case #CORE-15414 is now open with our developers in order to have this reviewed for future releases.

that's a good spot - it didn't in previous versions.

I don't think the issue lies with the widget itself (as the code hasn't changed between v7 and v8) - it's the recording of the admin logging in as the client/user (whatever!) updating the tblclients table... so if it only updated the table when a user logged in and not as an admin masquerading as one, then that should be the fix.
