UK Domain Registrar and Domain Registration

Hi,

Fairly new to WHMCS, have set it up and starting to use it.

I am looking for WHMCS to handle automated invoice generation for domains and web hosting that I provide to my clients.

As I am a UK based company 90% of the domains my clients use are .co.uk domains. I know I can use one of the supported WHMCS domain registrars (netearthone seems to get some good reviews) but is there any disadvantage to using a US company when 90%+ of my domains will be .co.uk domains?

Alternatively I can register direct with Nominet, which I dont mind doing, but the 500GBP fee is putting me off slightly (domains/hosting are only a secondary part of my business).

If I dont go this route and just stick with my existing UK domain registrar, can I just manually register domains in my usual way, and then invoice clients using WHMCS without the automated domain registration? i.e Do I just create a product called ."co.uk domain" and let WHMCS take care of the invoicing?

Many Thanks,

Dean

Hi welcome to the world of WHMCS.

Nothing wrong in using a US domain regsistrar. if you want to register domains manually then this can be done part automated.

when you set up the domain pricing go to the Domain Registrars and chose email from the list and then goto domain pricing and set this up as you wish and chose email as the auto registration.

this will allow users to register and pay for domains through WHMCS, but you will need to regsiter these manually with your registrar

Yes - price, management, support, opening hours ...

No product - you just set the registrar to email.

Or you can talk to a UK based accredited registrar with their own WHMCS module :D

I didn't spot the email option in the domain registrars setup options.

I think this is the way to go forward for now, and see how things run. If it ramps up i'll consider Nominet.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone!

Cheers,

Dean

This is exactly how we have it setup on ours aswell and the key advantage to this is you set your price to double that of whomever you choose to register them with. so for example the registar you choose to register your clients domains with charges £1.25 for a .co.uk domain you set the price in WHMCS as £2.50 this way your getting somthing for the proccess of manualy registering the domain on behalf of the client

Those are some very valid points, luckily none of them relate to NEO.

We will be launching a new module early next month too for the sole purpose of better support for the LB platform.

In general we run a range of registrars (as well as doing our own) for resilience. If one goes down, we have others to hand.

We set up a NEO account and have heard nothing substantive from them at all so have given up on using them as suppliers,

We were going to look at reseller.biz but as they are part of UK2, we thought it best to avoid them.

Currently we use Open SRS, Enom, Ascio, and Reseller Club as well as our own Nominet TAG for domains depending on which country we are operating in, so maybe that is enough :|

Hi Trevor,

We have sent you in total 3 messages, 2 from our support suite, and 1 personally from me to you with your mail server confirmations. :

To which we have had no replies from you, we can't do an awful lot more than that, I could fax you the ticket if you prefer? We do not automatically grant reseller access at this time, we "vet" our resellers signups to combat fraud and confirm that the individual/company is in fact a reseller of domain services, hosting and/or web design etc.

As we have this issue that you are not getting the actual emails, although your server is, with your permission I can PM the last email to you so that you can check your own server logs, like we did to gain that information for you ?

Regards,

Chris

Just a quick question - I have set up domains using the "email" option, however under the client profile it only shows the domain under products/services and nothing shows under domains. Is the domains tab used for something separate?

Many Thanks,

Dean
