Mac or Windows?

I prefer mac as it lends itself more to what i want but the high price tag is off putting, would love a new macbook but simply dont have the funds for one

Exactly what I think. But really, you pay for what you get, and you get a hell of a lot of stuff included. I mean, the OS itself is amazing and then you have all the apps! For £750, it's worth it I think.

 

I really do dislike (a nice way of saying 'hate') Microsoft!!

I've worked with PCs for several years and only recently invested in a MacBook Pro a year ago. It is an investment that has certainly paid itself off too! I know I'm a lot more productive with the mac and I think the quality of specialised programs for web design is the reason for it. I have CS5 but find my self using TextMate, CSSEdit, MAMP Pro, Sequel Pro, Color Oracle and Transmit seemlessly to complete my work.

well Macs were and are still geared towards the design market, you will not find many if any serious web designers using a PC for designing

I like being able to Google whatever task I'm looking to complete and someone will have created a free program (or at least a trial) that will be able to do it. With a Mac there just isn't the range of software.

I do see what you mean, but you can run exe's on a Mac with a virtual machine. I know one where each program is converted into something like a Mac program and it has its own window instead of being inside a VM box.

 

You can basically do everything on a Mac!

im actually running ubuntu on most of my machines, except my netbook which is used as a remote access terminal for when im out and about and also as a windows box for some select windows apps that i can not live without

Running a virtualisation program hardly counts. I configured a Windows dual boot on my friends Macbook Pro but I wouldn't claim that she can run anything on it...it's still being run in a Windows environment.

I completely concur.

 

I have several computers (PC's) networked and throwing a mac in it would just be the odd-man-out since it's not cross-compatible. The main apps (CS4/CS5/Final cut Pro/Premiere Pro) are just as effective whatever platform you run them from, as long as you have the RAM/Processing power behind them. I have used Macs, but they didn't seem to have as powerful as my pc's, but I guess that's because I build my own PC's and constantly swap out hardware for better, so it's always at the top of it's game.

I prefer windows but my kids computers run ubuntu because when they had windows they always downloaded trojans and didn't keep the av updated etc. Linux is great as it does the basics well.

 

I would have to say macs are by far the best looking machines but for now the programs i want to use run best on windows.

I dunno about Windows being more user friendly, but it's certainly got a bigger software library and is more widely supported.
