Gears
Hi, I just read this from the manage credits page: "Please note that credits only work with invoiced payment gateways (credit will not be applied if PayPal Subscriptions are used). You may manually alter the credits balance from the Clients Profile page." I added credits to the account then applied them to the invoice and it worked even though it is a PayPal subscription. My question is, why did it work? What am I missing here? Thank you.
chickendippers
It means that you will still receive money from the customer even though the invoice is now paid. Other payment gateways wouldn't charge your customer.
moonsoft
right because pay-pal is capturing the payment and processing the card for you you never capture thier card, or thier pay-pal details the client is sent to pay-pal.
Gears
So it still works for the most part. If the payment still comes through, it's just added as more credit. But in my case, the subscription payment won't be coming through so it's all good.
risrik
If a client has a subscription already set up that charges them monthly and I want to refund a month because of server outage or something, how is this accomplished? Do you add a credit and then go into PayPal and refund the amount and then the next month PayPal will charge again as expected for the subscription? I'm curious what the best way to do this is.
Impact-John
well if you add a credit and refund the money than you are giving 2 months free
risrik
How do you give a month free when there's a subscription? I probably should have just asked that because I've never had to give a credit. Does giving a credit in WHMCS refund the money automatically then even though there's a subscription? What's the process that happens?

I would find out whether a refunded subscription payment cancels the subscription altogether or not.

That will indeed give them back their money but keep their subscription intact. I guess WHMCS just wouldn't know of the refund but that's fine with me.
Gears
...this will not effect the subscription. Great then go to the invoice and click the "Refund" tab, risrik. Issue it from there instead of via the PayPal site.

sparky
Thats fine if the refund tab works with Paypal. the refund tab from my WHMCS will not work to refund paypal payments I believe that you need to enter the API details in the PayPal gateway preferences for the refund to work

risrik
I see that refunds for PayPal within WHMCS are possible in version 4. Time for me to upgrade!
