blot
Who is "advising" you about this? Does it matter? Site got hacked, credit card numbers were exposed. Not much else to talk about. I understand you assist with WHT as well but no need to be so defensive, your not on WHT and people should be allowed to discuss here what they want without being censored by WHT. merlinpa1969
why are you so defensive.... you were asked a simple question..... And for the record when I said OLD I meant old system data that should have been purged..... not that all the cards were OLD...... Does it matter? Site got hacked, credit card numbers were exposed. Not much else to talk about. bear
no need to be so defensive, your not on WHT and people should be allowed to discuss here what they want without being censored by WHT. Did I censor you? Have I censored anyone regarding this? For that matter, was it you that I asked that simple question of? Am I not allowed to participate in threads on either forum, regardless of topic? Seems to me that you are the one seeking to censor me here. Interesting, no? HostOrca
Does it matter? Site got hacked, credit card numbers were exposed. Not much else to talk about. I understand you assist with WHT as well but no need to be so defensive, your not on WHT and people should be allowed to discuss here what they want without being censored by WHT. I have been watching this thread, and have seen no censoring at all. Bear, like you, has every right to take part in this discussion, if you do not like that then go somewhere else. /Back on topic/ I am really suprised that inet stored credit card details unencrypted, and (aparrently) cvv2 codes. This really is an inexcusable blunder. But I think the thread on wht about it is totally out of control. The subject has been flogged to death, and is just going around in circles, and getting no-where. I'm a premium member on wht, but I have not felt the need, or, inclination to threaten a lawsuit. At the end of the day, inet is going to suffer financially from this I would imagine, and the credit card companies/banks could seek recompence for any losses/costs they've inccured because of this, but that's between the credit card companies/banks, and inet. What inet needs to do now is ensure that they learn from this, and ensure that it can never happen again. They also need to demonstrate (over time), that they have learnt from it, and regain the industries/communitys trust.
blot
Extremely speculative. Defensive Based on what? Defensive I say again, extremely speculative, as Reed would know nothing more than was released to the public. He, you, and everyone else is guessing without all the facts, I'm fairly certain. It remains to be seen if they know who was behind it, so if and when that becomes public, we'll all find out. Defensive What is this referring to? Who was this directed at? Defensive Thread cleaned, back on topic, pretty much. Please keep it that way. Censored (unless there is some other meaning to thread cleaned) Actually, if you read the announcement from inet, it's still a result from the first time, not a second time. The intruder simply hadn't released everything at first. Defensive Who is "advising" you about this? Defensive Did I censor you? Have I censored anyone regarding this? For that matter, was it you that I asked that simple question of? Am I not allowed to participate in threads on either forum, regardless of topic? Seems to me that you are the one seeking to censor me here. Interesting, no? Defensive For the record I'm an not trying to tell you what to say and what not to say, was simply giving my opinion on what seemed to be someone from WHT attempting to defend what happened when people wanted a place to vent about the issue, if they wanted to discuss it with WHT then they would do so there. I admit I could be completely wrong but again that is my opinion and I could honestly care less who you asked the question of, you asked in public and again I offered my opinion. blot
My last post seems to be censored, said needs moderator approval so I guess yes I am being censored. Edited April 11, 2009 by blot
bear
Defensive Incorrect, on pretty much every count, except for the last one where you accused me of censoring you and I defended myself. Censored (unless there is some other meaning to thread cleaned) Yes. Name calling and bickering, unrelated to the topic. Feel free to read into that as well. For the record I'm an not trying to tell you what to say and what not to say, was simply giving my opinion on what seemed to be someone from WHT attempting to defend what happened No, actually you implied I was trying to censor people discussing something that happened on another forum, and it's simply untrue. You were telling me I shouldn't "defend" anything...which is attempting to silence me. That would be censorship. Look it up. My last post seems to be censored, said needs moderator approval so I guess yes I am being censored. No, you're not being censored (still). The forum has filters in place on new members, and you were automatically held for review. Your entire (incorrect) post is still there, now approved. For the record, I do NOT represent WHT in any way, shape or form on this forum. I represent me, as a customer of WHMCS, and the forum itself, on which I help moderate and run. It is possible to be impartial while doing so.
HostOrca
The posts that where deleted had nothing to do with the wht hack, just some people posting and linking to other topics which was in no way related to inet/wht, they where deleted because they did not belong in this thread (one of them being mine where I asked "Whats that got to do with the wht hack"). As for Bear being defensive, all I've seen is him saying that "it's speculation", asking people who have made claims, to say how they know that. As I've said before Bear has just as much right to participate in this thread as you or I have. You might not agree with what he, or I, am saying, but, just because you do not agree with him does not mean that he should stop posting.

Maybe, I came off the wrong way bear, I was simply stating that it seems(key word) to me and I am sure others that you were attempting to defend what happened as most of your comments seemed(that key word again) though they were coming off as defensive. (When I say defensive I mean you seem to imply "Prove It or go away"). My apologies if my original post seemed as though I was attempting to censor you but your posts seem to be an attempt to censor others. And I also appreciate your professionalism in your responses, maybe you should work for Webster since you seem to want to ensure that I utilize a dictionary. No, you're not being censored (still). The forum has filters in place on new members, and you were automatically held for review. Just for the record --> Held for review would be censored... But in any case if the only posts that were removed were "bickering and name calling" then so be it, I couldn't agree more. seem Verb 1. to appear to the mind or eye; give the impression of

Daniel
There were active cards in the dump, and I know of people that have had their card used for fraudulent transactions as a result.

And again my posts are being censored(held for review) Just strange that this did not happen before I posted in this thread. The forum has automatic filters in place for new members posts. All new members posts will automatically be held for review. This will be to cut down on the amount of spam. I would imagine once a new member reaches a certain amount of posts it will stop. By the way, Bear did explain that in one of his replies. As for Bear being defensive, all he has done is say where there has been speculation, and where people have made claims, he's asked them to say where they came to that conclusion. One example is where someone said he'd heard from a source that it was a inet/wht staff member who did the hack. When asked who the reliable source was he stated a post made in a private forum, by someone who was, basically just stating his opinion, but no proof (from what I can gather). So it is all speculation. As I've stated earlier on, what inet did, ie storing credit card details unencrypted, is plain and simply wrong, and I would imagine they have/are going to face the consequenses for that, what ever those consequenses may be, and I am sure it's going to be expensive, not just financially. But, then again, that's just speculation on my part.
bear
And again my posts are being censored(held for review)Just strange that this did not happen before I posted in this thread. Let's address the latest comment, since you are hell bent on dragging this off topic and seeing conspiracies around every corner. blot's posts: Showing results 1 to 6 of 6 5 out of 6 in this thread, one that appeared to be "contact me for referrals" in the Enom Extended thread. Self promotion and referral type "advertising" are not allowed, just for the record. So, one post (not posts) that was automatically moderated by the forum software out of the 6 you made, nearly all of which were in this thread. No one has deliberately moderated, stifled or shut you up, but this is growing tiresome. I can post about it, as can you. 'Nuff said.

That would be 2 out of 7 as the one that you decided not to "approve" is still not showing. As far as self promotion, me stating I can point someone in the right direction(sarcasm is not self promotion) you're really grasping at straws now.
