Using htaccess DirectoryIndex for Different Home Page

Will using the DirectoryIndex directive in .htaccess affect WHMCS in any way?  All the calls WHMCS tries to make seem to be directed to index.php, so there does not appear to be a problem.

Is this the best way to change the default home page or is there a better way?

It shouldn't cause any issues. However it may be easier to edit the homepage.tpl file in your custom template in the /templates folder if you wish to make any specific changes to the homepage itself.
