servertech
I noticed in a thread posted back in 2008 Matt saying: Run a lot of lookups through a whois server and your server IP will be banned by it. The captcha image stops people processing lookups through your form via scripts remotely. Matt Is this still true? If so, how many lookups do you think it'd take for something like this to happen? I disabled my captcha system and I'm skeptical on whether or not that was a good idea. Thanks, Jordan
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted August 2, 2016 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted August 2, 2016 Hi, That really depends upon the individual whois server in question. Some have very low limits, whilst others (like .com .net) don't seem to have any limit that I've encountered.
brian!
Jordan, John's absolutely correct with this - it depends on the whois server, e.g .nl has whois limits of 15 per day; CentralNic will block your IP if you make too many searches; Donut domains have limits too... I could go on. the problem you'll find is that once you reach these limits, WHMCS will be unable to check if one of these TLDs is available and will likely return that they're not... so potentially losing out on sales... therefore, it's better to avoid breaching the limits for each whois server.
