Sub domain service

Hello,

I tried to search in the forum for this topic but the threads I found were very old.

I wish to offer sub domain registration service, but I don't know how to do that. I was thinking to use Clouflare (to create custom DNS for each sub domain), but is there any way to connect it with WHMCS?

Also can a whois service be included?

Thank you

Hi,

that doesn't necessarily mean the responses aren't still valid and correct! :)

WHMCS has a built-in option to offer subdomains to domains that you (WHMCS license owner) already own...

http://docs.whmcs.com/Products_and_Services#Other

but I think you are wanting something different - it sounds as though either you want to allow users to register a domain and then offer them subdomains within that domain (but a whois lookup would be irrelevant for subdomains in that case because, if the domain is available, they can add any subdomains they want)... or you're talking about 3rd/4th level TLDs such as .us.com, and registering under those type of domains.

can you expand on exactly what you want to do/offer ?

The thread I found was in 2009 (if I'm not wrong)

I want to create the subdomain service of the domains I own. The whois would make the service better.

I tried the info given in that link, in the Products/Services I added a group and in that group a product

In the "other" tab in the product settings I added the domain I own (let say .example.com) and saved the changes.

Now to test what I did, I created a new client and made an order (a sub domain registration which by the way, it takes too much to go in the paypal.com log in to checkout page). In the admin panel I activated the subdomain I registered and with the same client I tried to register the same subdomain again, guess what, the subdomain is still available...

Ok, if I go in the user panel and than domains > register a new domain and try to register the same domain it says "This domain already exists in our database so cannot be ordered again" which is good, but if I try in the home page the same domain it appears available...

is it marked as paid ?

that could be a cache issue - empty the template cache and see if that fixes it...

utilities -> system -> system cleanup -> empty template cache

you shouldn't need a whois for subdomains - if it's not taken, or on your blocked subdomain list, it will be available.

Done still the same, even with an other browser :(

Nevermind the whois, will try to solve it later. Now it is more important to solve the subdomain registration issue.

it's a pity you weren't around a few weeks ago - WHMCS used to have an online demo that you could have used to test this on a clean installation - they don't now.

you could try marking the invoice as paid - until it's paid (or marked as), WHMCS might still consider it available.

Mine is a clean install too

I think the problem is in the checking out process. It may not be related to this but still it is a problem.

It takes too much time to go from whmcs checkout page to paypal login page (about one minute) and in that time even the admin panel takes the exact same tome to load.

I tried again and made the price $0, but still nothing. same issue, in the homepage the domain is still available.

I registered twice the same domain and in the user panel shows twice.

If I give you access to my admin panel, can you please set up it for me?

yes, but the demo had default settings - i've no idea what you've changed!

what I would suggest you do, while you're testing this, is not to use paypal - use one of the offline gateways such as Mail In Payments or Bank Transfer... it'll be quicker... worry about the Paypal slowness later on.

until WHMCS sees it marked as paid, it might consider it still available - if the demo was available, I could get you to do it on there and I could see what you were doing..

well, i'm about to call it a day for today - but try what I suggested: setup an offline gateway; make an order for a new subdomain; mark it as paid; then see if you can order it again.... almost certainly, the answer should be that you cannot.

if you've followed the documentation to set it up, then it's probably setup correctly - out of interest, do you have the "Block Existing Domains" checkbox ticked in setup -> general settings -> ordering ?

Block Existing Domains

Enabling prevents visitors mistakenly or maliciously ordering a new product with a domain name that is already pending, active or suspended in your system.

if you still want me to take a look, enable Private Messaging in your forum profile and send me a PM - don't post your login details openly in the forum! :)

  • WHMCS Support Manager

Hi,

If you'd like a fresh installation to test things out, please contact Customer Service and we can issue a development licence key for such a purpose: http://www.whmcs.com/support/

As soon as the order is placed WHMCS will consider the subdomain as taken. It should appear under the client's Products/Services tab with the Domain field as follows:

subdomain.yourdomain.com

To make this particular sub-domain available again on the order form it would be necessary to terminate or cancel the service.

I've attached some screenshots of the configuration which I hope helps explain.
