Duplicate domain

Hi,

I have no idea how this happened - I think my technophoebe client created a new order for his domain name rather than paying the existing invoice. Now his domain name is listed twice in the Admin Domains List and twice under his client details.

One copy isn't allocated to a Registrar, so I'm thinking that's the new one. If I was to delete this copy of the domain, will it endanger the other copy, or is it safe?

Thanks.

That's what I would have thought. It's never happened before.

There were no existing invoices when the registrar sent a renewal notice, with a link to my site, directly to the client (which I have since stopped them doing).

Between the client possibly setting up an order, then contacting me for help and my trying to fix it through admin, we seem to have doubled up.

The newer one will be the one with the higher ID number. Yes, it is safe to delete. Just make sure you update the original domain's details like due and expiration dates.

I have also had this happen. As John pointed out, I had Block Existing Domains ticked. I use multiple registrars mainly because of accounts I have bought. When an existing domain comes due and I would like to transfer it to another registrar instead of renew, WHMCS will not allow it if it already exists in the system. So, I disabled that feature and have to live with an occassional SNAFU until I no longer need the other registrar.

If you do not have any strange circumstances like this, then uncheck Setup > Ordering > Block Existing Domains as John recommends.

Thank you John and TonsOfStores.

Yes, the Block Existing Domains was checked. And I will leave it that way.

The glitch possibly happened with the client still poking around after asking me for help - two working on it at the same time.

I have deleted the unwanted one, and the other has remained in tact.

All good.

Thanks a lot for your time.
