Removing announcements from public view

Hello,

 

I thought announcements was for customers only when they logged in. Appears not to be the case. How can I configure it so that only customers can view when logged into their client area?

 

The reason for this is because we need a way to communicate with customers with customer specific announcements. We already have a separate news system anyway for public view.
