dkent
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHMCS Version 4 - I CAN'T STOP DROOLING! Matt, this is absolutely brilliant, much better than I originally expected, and WOW - the whole Admin control panel has had a face-lift also! What a shock I was in when I gave the demo version a test drive. Version 4 is clean, easy to use, fast and the never-ending list of amazing features, I love it. I will be installing my version later today, and look forward to setting all those lovely features up, especially MULTI-CURRENCY! (which I believe was always nagging you about). Here's my personal most-loved features: 1. Multi-Currency 2. Client Grouping (my suggested feature!) - and coloring group names - WOW! 3. Newsletter opt-in/out options 4. Password Strenght Indicator 5. Security Questions 6. Client & Admin IP recording 7. Client & Admin area - new look 8. Billable Items 9. Processing Refunds 10. Switching Tabs without having pages to refresh! Thank you so much Matt, and to say thanks I have helped spread the word about the new version of WHMCS in forums, such as: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=726844 It's the least I can do Again, thanks very much... WHMCS rocks!
isdoo
If you are upgrading and your database is quite large, I would strongly suggest using the comand line via SSH to backup your database. If you are nto familiar with the syntax use... mysqldump -uusername -ppassword databasename > databasename.sql If you need to restore the database use... mysql -h localhost -uusername -ppassword databasename < databasename.sql If you wish to compress and expand your backup then use tar -cvpzf databasename.tgz databasename.sql and tar -xzvf databasename.tgz to expand it back out.
Zeon
Loving the new look! Honestly even if there wasn't any new functionality added just moving on from the dreary as hell grey is a massive step! Well done!
tmony
all i can say is WOW, the admin side alone is visually stunning (this coming from a user experience designer), now I just have to find the time to play around with it... moonsoft
just updated my 3.8.2 to v4, and now I got a invalid license key. I had to re-issue of the license key, I ran into the same issue just resiuuse the license again from your WHMCS client area and do it one more time, if you keep getting the error than open up a ticket.

moonsoft
Two things I am VERY happy about 1. I can finally put customers in collections!! instead of leaving invoices open 2. I can now add existing products to quotes!! Still fiddling with this, as I am sure everyone else will be for a little while.
HostBizLng
Hello, I am a little confused now, well it was my mistake, was so excited to upgrade to V4 that I forgot to follow instructions, and by mistake removed V3completely and tried to install V4 from scratch, but then realized, and Matt told me too, that I cannot import data from my v3 db to v4 db. I don't know why thougH, ... Anyway, Matt suggested to restore v3 db and then follow the upgrade instructions. But now does it mean I have to re-install v3 with new db? because I am getting an error I got with v4 when trying to install with populated db. So now I am thinking to install v3 with new blank db, and restore backup into it, before upgrading. The only thing is I don't really know how to restore backup isdoo mentioned above about SSH commands for backing up and restoring backed up db, mysqldump -uusername -ppassword databasename > databasename.sql If you need to restore the database use... mysql -h localhost -uusername -ppassword databasename < databasename.sql do you think those commands will do the job? Or do I need something else? I guess it's a learning experience for me. It's just sometimes I am getting so impatient to begin that I always forget to follow the instructions. vT16
Install v3 with a new db, when you have installed, completly wipe out the DB content and import the old db content... It should now be working, then upgrade to v4
HostBizLng
Hello, After much thought, I made a decision to start from scratch, since I don't have much in the old database after a month of work, trials and errors, (still it feels like entire month went to waist, or I should look at it as more like a "learning experience"). I am new to WHMCS, Hosting business and managed web services in general, and while configuring V3 I know I made lots of mistakes and was planning to come back to fix them. Well now I should use it as a chance to start from scratch and do it right, where I made mistakes earlier. Nevertheless, concerning database restoration, it is very important in emergency cases, and no one is immune from those emergency times when db restoration is inevitable. I will try to start a new thread as part of my research for sources of information to learn how-to do it and to learn all possible options of doing it. I guess it is an important learning experience I went through. vT16, I will consider your suggestion as one of the major options, it does actually make sense and sounds like it should work. Thank you! Anyway, very happy with all the new features and updates V4 brought to us. Looking forward to use it to the fullest and looking forward to more upgrades and more versions of WHMCS, truly great system! Thank you! Sincerely, Serg Edited May 7, 2009 by HostBizLng
vincent_g
Version 4 upgrade was smooth but. What if you have products you want to price in GBP? Under the current setup it converts USD to GBP - what do we need this for?? When a user wants to signup for a Product you want to list as his currency it show USD! If I send an invoice to Paypal in GBP they will convert it as will most Merchants. The purpose of having support for more than one type of money is so we can sell things in that currency. Using USD's as the base can cost us money should the dollar drop. Suppose you have a server in the UK and are paying British Pounds for it. Now the dollar drops to half due to good old Uncle Sam printing too many bucks. Well you are now taking in less money due to server costs going up double. Why do you want to take on what a merchant or other payment services all ready do? Just set the new invoices to GBP and the product price to GBP and forget about conversions. Setup the API to pass the type of currency to the merchant and let him worry about it! Or do a convert at bill time before you send it in. RyanH
Vincent, you're confused big time! You can set prices in each currency and don't have to use rate conversions. Tha'ts just one option. Take a time out mate and look at it again.
MH-Stefan
So far I'm amazed by this release, it was a quick and smooth upgrade. I absolutely love the new design and new features. Only one feature which I've been eagerly waiting for isn't working - PDF batch. Did anyone test it yet? Does it work or is it just me?
dexus
It really looks great, and I love lots of new great features... I noticed that there is no option to choose which payment gateways will be shown to client depending on selected currency, and I think that option is really missing, because for example if you wan't to offer bank transfer payment option you would need to have different payment instructions (different gateway) for every currency, and we can't do that now... Or maybe that option is somewhere in general settings which I can't access in demo version...? I like custom fields regexp validation... it would also be great if same validation can be added to domain custom fields... What do you think Matt?
