trinity1643
So, we upgraded to 3.8.2 a few days ago(I know, I just never got around to it). Then we started having problems, about 12 hours ago... all my client's passwords got changed to something random like... Password: ϋΜ³»Ό"άm This happened to EVERY customer. I've taken measures, by just changing the MySQL password to literally impossible to guess/brute. What would cause this? It seemed stupid to have WHMCS ask for configuration.php to be CHMOD to 777, am I right? Thank you
Stream101
You replaced over the hash key in WHMCS's configuration.php. You seemed to replace the entire file, otherwise WHMCS upgrade program doesnt override the hash key. Restore your backup of the configuration.php and you should be all set!

I didn't make a backup Can I just have WHMCS remake it?
bear
I don't believe it would make it exactly the same way again, so that won't work. Ask your host if they have backups that you can grab the one file from. Any decent host will have at least daily/monthly backups running.
othellotech
I didn't make a backup then you'll need to give all your clients new passwords and an apology ...

Afraid not, if you don't have the key you will need to let your clients know about the error and have them create a new password. I actually did this by accident, but ALWAYS have backups!
vT16
I had the same issue, after some troubles with the host we had to move the website using a backup of the MySQL database, i re-setup WHMCS by uploading the files and then importing the MySQL to a new database, changed the configuration file. And guess what? After this, then all the passwords where messed up with strange symbols. And i can't really see what i have possibly done wrong to make any " bugs" or errors in the database.
Stream101
You must still have something changed in there. If the database name, password, username changes, this could cause this problem. IF the hash key is different in the configuration.php file, this is most likely the cause.
