Shaun
If you like me you probally have a personal MSN account and a "work" msn account where you keep all those "lovery" customers. Untill now i have ran a second app such as trillian, trillian has had some bugs (such as file transfers) however today i found a like to run both. Thought i would share. Credit here. How To The support for multi-WLM is not enabled by default, but can be easily turned on and enable with registry hack. 1. Run Registry Editor (regedit). 2. Navigate to the following registry key: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenge For 64-bit (x64) OS, go to following registry branch instead: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows Live\Messenger 3. In the right pane, right click on any blank space, select New on context menu, and then click on DWORD (32-bit) Value. 4. Name the new registry value entry as MultipleInstances. 5. Modify the MultipleInstances and set its value data as 1. 6. Start as many Windows Live Messenger windows as you want from Start Menu. Note that you need a different Windows Live account (MSN Passport user name) and password in order to run two or more instances of Windows Live Messenger. If you have set automatically login upon running WLMessenger, an error may pop up when additional instance is run if your login is still signed in when new instance opening. Just change to your second WL Messenger login.
sparky
Or you could just install messenger live Plus! and enable it in the Preferences and not have the error.
Blazr
Or you could just install messenger live Plus! and enable it in the Preferences and not have the error. Live messenger Plus! is a cleverly disguised trojan virus. http://www.security-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=9076 http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/839888.html http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080417135504AAyZAHk Edited February 7, 2009 by Blazr adding more sources

Although I've not used it for years as I'm now on a Mac and use Adium to support multiple accounts. Ben
Blazr
So you have actually read the posts from the first link you gave there and not just skimmed over it? My apologies, I once had a friend who installed MsnPlus! and had serious virii on his computer, In the end I had to reformat the entire drive. I didn't read the entire post as I assumed those sources had the exact same problem, and I had never heard of that optional software in the installer.

I have been using Plus! for years with no problems and to be honest I have never used the multiple accounts feature. I might try it out and setup another account.

Shaun
Without hijacking my own thread. Does pidgin support all the functions of MSN. Such as filetransfer and WEbCam
mattpark
Without hijacking my own thread.Does pidgin support all the functions of MSN. Such as filetransfer and WEbCam Sure does! It basically roles all the dedicated client apps in to one piece of software, and so far i've not found anything thats not supported in pidgin, that would be in the dedicated app. Even if there is something missing in the core, there are many many plugins available....
bear
I'd been looking at this, not being satisfied with Trillian any longer. Will it import contacts from that? I saw an addon, but it doesn't mention imports from Trillian, nor does Trillian have an export function I can find.

MSN stores your contacts on the server so it should import them automatically.. does it not?! Ben
bear
Haven't tried it yet, but was considering it. I Have MSN, ICQ, YIM, AIM all in Trillian, but sometimes it doesn't work as well as I like, and some functions don't..well, function. If I can get most everything over to pidgin easily, I'd certainly consider using that instead.
BAJI26
Yes Msn does import.
AndrewMKP
We use MSN Plus, its very good, integrates well and is actually designed to run with the software. Much better than any other that I have tried, the multiple account function is absolutely excellent. You launch MSN IM, sign into a account, then go to your start bar, launch it again and instead of re-opening the current window it essentially adds a seperate MSN application, just two MSNs running at the same time. No conflict, no hassle, no problem.
jas
If you pardon all the "praise be to god" on the installer and what not, A-Patch is superb. Removes the ads from MSN, and all sorts. Also enables Multi-MSN. Linkage: http://apatch.org/
