alinford
Any idea what Spiral Host is using to handle their client backup system? http://vip.spiralhost.com/restore.php http://www.spiralhost.com/backup_system.php
Daniel
Its R1Soft. Type anything into the login and you get sent to their failed page, uses the R1Soft logo and it says "© Righteous Software Inc. 2005 Patents Pending"

Daniel
A word of advice - If you have a R1Soft box local to your network then its fine. However if you plan on doing it remotely then forget it - its useless.

Disagree...R1Soft has worked for me in numerous situations for emergency backup, simple restore, Bare Metal, and more. alinford - I will be happy to discuss this with you if desired.
handsonwebhosting
Similar to GopherHosts, we use the r1soft on just over 140 machines - no problems at all. Multiple backup machines running, and integrating into cPanel and MySQL Databases. The only bad part currently is that if a user wants to restore a table *WE* have to manually do it for them. Files etc they can run on their own, but the database tables or an entire database restore we have to manually run. A lifesaver on many occasions for our clients.
Daniel
How far is your R1Soft box from your other machines? We used it and it was useless - backups timed out, the GUI was processor hungry and it was generally unstable. For something as crucial as backups we decided it wasn't worth it and moved back to rsync with ZFS snapshots.

Do you offer r1soft as a service for dedi's hosting through you?

We use the latest version, and enjoy the peace knowing that our servers are have a backup in case of disaster.
handsonwebhosting
Our backup machines are located at ThePlanet, the same place where our servers are located. However since our servers are spread between the 6 data centers, they're not all right beside each other. We also have a backup machine in Omaha in which we pull additional backups to. While the CPU usage is high on the backup servers, it does not affect the CPU usage on the machines that it's backing up. Alinford, we do use the R1Backup on our Shared and VPS accounts. The service is included with purchase. Our dedicated servers however, the backup is optional and incurs a cost. Please contact us directly for pricing.
