Daniel
Out of interest, what problems did you find and how much are they raising their pricing by?
Darren
Guys isn't there any other help desk out there ? I've found Cerberus 4 to be good. Technically should be possible to integrate in to WHMCS as they've got a web-api for Cerberus.
bear
kayako was a waste of money beleive me stay with whmcsand even though I paid for owned license they want to reaise their price This is untrue. As explained on the Kayako forum, no discussion of pricing change has occurred at all, not privately or publicly. You are guessing, and spreading FUD. As such, the subject was edited to reflect what you're looking for, a replacement for Kayako.
mylove4life
and even if there are some bugs, it's still good software to use...
Daniel
I've used the trial a couple of times and tried to persuade myself to switch, however the WHMCS helpdesk seems to work fine for now. I am planning to use Kayako for another project though, and am glad to hear that the price rise was just speculation.
jnet
Even if it is a speculation it is a bad idea. hope it wont happen. we work hard to pay for things . Money is not droped from the sky you know. updates and upgrads for customers who already got the software with that terms of use should not change. any way thanks
bear
Even if it is a speculation it is a bad idea. It's called capitalism. A company can raise thier price for a new version of something if they see fit. If the customer doesn't wish to pay the increase, they can continue using the older version or move to a different solution. As they say: "vote with your wallet". updates and upgrads for customers who already got the software with that terms of use should not change. Terms change. I regularly use many versions of software on my system that have similar terms to Kayako, and some that offer free upgrades within what are called "point releases" (for example, all releases in the 3.x line, but not when it goes from 3 to version 4). Kayako uses a different model currently, called a "subscription" model, similar to WHMCS. Updates and upgrades at no additional cost during the period for which you've paid a fee. In the case of WHMCS, it's typically a bargain, since Matt updates very often. For Kayako, updates don't happen all that frequently, so it's less of a good thing for the consumer. Over all, there has been no talk of a price increase save what you yourself brought up along with one other member on Kayako's forum, and again here. It's speculation, rumor, FUD. Wait and see, then decide.
Chrisw
I think the problem that is most brought up is when you pay for 6 months of updates and support. Kayako tells you it will be corrected in the next version and to wait for it. 12 months later, finally a fix (or none at all). So the updates/support was paid for what in the meantime?
bear
Which is why most people using it (AFAIK) wait until it has a feature or fix that they really need and then pay the upgrade fee. I'm several releases behind, myself, because I don't need the new features. They have a history of slow releases, so I see no need to pay for updates until such time as I need it. In their defense, they do release bug fixes relatively frequently (mostly in CVS builds), it's just that they don't make major releases often. They appear to be deep into working on a new version, and that has slowed 3.x releases even more (understandable). I'd imaging it's this the regular update fees are providing to those that pay them.
