Howard
Hello! I started WHCMS a couple of years back. I'm considering changing the URL where my WHCMS is installed on my website or renaming it. Does this mean I need to re-install whcms? Reading some of the previous posts, I'm guessing I downloaded my database and then I can import that into my new directory. Or do you suggest another approach? Thank you
Saroha
Hi Howard, if you change the complete WHMCS path then you do not need to change anything. but if you rename the admin folder name then you need to add a variable in your configuration file that is $customadminpath = 'Your New admin folder name'; and if you Change the domain of your hosting then you need to update new details in the general configuration of WHMCS by login your admin panel Setup-> System Settings -> General Setting if your scenario is different then please explain your scenario for a better solution.

Thank you You can export/import database, but this would not preserve any customizations made in your WHMCS files and any third-party modules would require reinstallation. There are probably some cases, where the above is acceptable, but it's important to acknowledge in case you were relying on any custom modules or code.

If you change the complete WHMCS path, no additional changes are needed. However, if you rename the admin folder, you must add the following variable to your configuration file: $customadminpath = 'Your New Admin Folder Name'; If you change your hosting domain, you’ll need to update the new details in the General Configuration of WHMCS by logging into your admin panel and navigating to: Setup -> System Settings -> General Settings. If your situation is different, please explain for more specific assistance.
jimmyjac90
No, you don’t need to re-install WHMCS. You can move it by: Backing up your database and files. Updating the configuration file (configuration.php) with the new directory URL. Importing the database to the new location. Updating the WHMCS System URL under Settings > General. Test thoroughly after the move!
Damo
You'll need to do the license re-issue too. Installs are tied to an install directory and URL. If this is the first move you've ever done with the license then it will do it automatically.
anisa.lewis
No, you don’t need to reinstall WHMCS. Just update the configuration file and move the files to the new directory.
Jhonn Dee
To rename or change the installation URL of your WHCMS without reinstalling, you can indeed download your database and re-import it into the new directory. However, make sure to update the configuration settings in your WHCMS files to reflect the new URL. Additionally, you might want to check the length of your new URL to ensure it's optimized for SEO and performance. You can use a URL Length Checker Tool to measure the length and ensure it meets best practices. This will help avoid issues with excessive URL lengths affecting your website's performance and SEO.
