rockhost
Greetings, I have an older WHMCS installation (7.8.3). It is one of three owned licenses I purchased long ago. I wasn't too happy about taking the shaft due to the semi-recent changes in WHMCS subscriptions and pricing. So, I'd like to stretch this free interim out as long as possible, frankly. Meanwhile, it is past time to update MariaDB 10.2 on the server which currently works well with my 7.8.3 installation. Any advice here would be much appreciated. Will MariaDB 10.5 or 10.6 work with WHMCS 7.8.3 (and PHP 7.3). Thank you!

rockhost
No, so far so good. The daily cron ran as it should, etc. All is well seemingly.
bendrop
@rockhost Did you ever upgrade any higher, such as 10.11 or even 11.4?
rockhost
@bendrop Not yet, I am going to have to update eventually. Obviously, sooner rather than later, but I am holding out as long as possible. I mean, all WHMCS had to do was increase the price of support and upgrades for owned licenses, and I would have been happy to pay it. Not sure why they felt like they had to be so rigid. Please post back here if you do upgrade to 10.11 (or 11.4). I will be very curious to know what happens. Cheers!

Capital investors have folks they need to answer to, and that answer is how to constantly increase the income from held properties. Owned license holders might not buy support, but leased license users have to or lose access. Clear to see from the marketplace additions that get them a bit of money each time a license holder buys in. It all adds up, and it will certainly continue moving forward. The only way this gets checked is if at least one competitor gets off their butt and makes their title as fully featured as WHMCS without breaking the bank. Even then, it won't be easy getting folks to move off, barring huge increases here, once the other product is ready. Unlikely.
