addon custom fields

I have just discovered that addon custom fields don;t actually work and are not visible on the client side, so they cannot fill them in.
According to WHMCS support, this is intended as they are only for use by marketplace connect.

Is there any other solution or workaround for this?

I have a product where a client can have multiple sites/locations, so when they purchase an addon, they need to specify which site/location it is for.

The Product Addon Custom Field functionality was implemented solely with third-party developers in mind. The custom fields are designed to compliment the Service Property functionality and allow Product Addons to store data relevant to their parent Product/Service. You can read more about this at http://docs.whmcs.com/Service_Properties

At this time, Product Addon Custom Fields are not designed to be displayed in the shopping cart area, and are not considered during checkout. This is why required fields can be skipped without issue - they are not designed for information input by customers going through the checkout process.

I hope this information clears up why these fields do not display in the Client Area at this time.

why do they need to specify it - and what happens if they could specify a site/location that the product isn't using ??

I think you misunderstood my post.

I am  aware that these fields are not usable,  thus why I said "According to WHMCS support, this is intended as they are only for use by marketplace connect."

I am not asking why they are not usable, the questions was "Is there any other solution or workaround for this?"

because without this information we cannot provision the order, so have to then go back and ask for it.

It would be ordering a pizza but not specifying what toppings you wanted
or ordering web hosting but not entering the doamin name
or  arranging a parcel collection, but not entering the pickup address

I was merely pointing out that this is an old and known situation....

from your description, I assumed they were choosing a site/location with the product - aren't they ??

if they're not and they need to specify a location for the addon, then make it a product and use a bundle, or add a link to it from the first.

it cannot really be a separate product, as it is an addon to a product so needs to be related to it.

the product is for businesses  such as restaurants, cafes etc which can have multiple locations.
They can purchase the addons for any number of locations.
So when they purchase the addon in whmcs, we need to know which location it is for so we can enable it for the correct location.

These addons cannot be purchased by themselves, the parent product must have been purchased first.

aahh - I had totally forgotten your specific restaurant use of WHMCS... so when you said multiple locations, I was still thinking hosting and config option choices of server location... my bad.

how are they choosing locations for the product in WHMCS ?
