Install WHMCS in a subdomain?

Can someone tell me the benefits of installing WHMCS in a subdomain? I have seen several people using it that way, but I am not sure if there is a good reason for that?

I am asking this question because I haven't been able to update my hosting account to PHP 7.2. I am still on 5.6. The reason is because I am using some  WHMCS modules that are not compatible with PHP 7.2. The problem here is that my main site is loading very slow. I was planning on installing WHMCS in a subdomain with PHP 5.6 (until a find a solution) and update  my main site to PHP 7.2.

There's no benefit but there are other things to consider.

What if you already have a website published on example.com and you need to start using WHMCS? You have two options:

  1. You don't want to replace the website with WHMCS. Install WHMCS on a subdomain (or subdirectory). Job done. Quick and simple.
  2. You want to get rid of your website and use WHMCS for everything. In this case WHMCS can be installed directly on example.com.

Most of the times people choose the first option because it's cheap and simple. The other approach requires time and skills (or money) or maybe is impractical for some reason.

I take the decision to leave my main website and leave just with WHMCS, and happy with that. of couse now, this mean, that my new main website is WHMCS platform, but since WHMCS is the core and brain of our managment, no problem with that. Also means that to keep my website I need all the time a WHMCS license, but when I sum all the benefits of having WHMCS, WHMCS system pays all costs it self helping my company run with all that automation, that even with hiring 2 people could not do that job better.

Now, having just WHMCS, it is easy on updating, do not have to worry having WHMCS match with other website.

PS: Taking have that decision to have just one system depends from each specifics needs, ofcouse for my case was easy to decide, but I am happy happy. After 3 years learning in this community, I can now alone, install whmcs, do manual installation alone, migrate it*, backup it, customize it to be mine (with community help), The last one, Iam promoting WHMCS encoraging others to use this plataform helping WHMCS for free 😂😂😂
