aknight
We have both hosting packages and SSL certs configured in Products/Services. Our lowest hosting package does not support SSL. What is the best way to go prevent a client from ordering an SSL until they upgrade to a package that does allow SSL?

What is the best way to go prevent a client from ordering an SSL until they upgrade to a package that does allow SSL? This will be hard to do as if you block them from ordering an SSL from you then they could easily go elsewhere and order an SSL.

easyhosting
On our entry hosting package they can't even generate the CSR. they dont need to do that either as both TheSSL store and gotgetssl allows them to generate 1 for you. also these days even basic sites need SSL to get noticed by google Edited April 26, 2017 by easyhosting
brian!
I suppose if they were logged in, you could write a hook to see if they had already had an active product x, y or z and if not, hide the SSL products from the cart... though that wouldn't necessarily prevent them from using the direct product URL. I think with v7.2, you can have product addons that run modules, so you may be able to setup the SSL certs as addons to specific products - though i'd imagine that to be close to a month away from a full release.
