As i am new to the WHMCS scene i was wondering if someone could tell me if you just use the default settings or are there a few that you fine tune. Also i see where WHMCS wants them to run every 5 minutes but or can we just run them every 24 hours as the menu says

thank you

Hello Moffl,

Thanks for your post, generally the out of box settings a good start and you can fine tune them as you go. With the cron we recommend running it between 5 & 15 minutes which will allow certain functions such as ticket escalations to run frequently you can see the frequency of some common tasks at http://docs.whmcs.com/Crons#Task_Options_for_skip_.26_do

If you are using WHMCS v6.3.2 and below then running the cron once a day is recommended

Chris,

Are the "--CheckForWhmcsUpdate" and "--TicketEscalations" the only things that are done more than once per day via the main cron? We're not using the escalations and once a day is enough version checking IMHO, so if that's all, will a 24 hour schedule not cause anything to explode?

At this stage yes, theres more in the works for the cron but right now only those two functions run multiple, I would however recommend running it every 8 hours to check for new versions ect :)

Will there be announcements as to what is being added into that to gauge if we need to run it more frequently? Every 5 minutes is kind of silly for the main cron, if I may say so, just to check for ticket escalations. Just my opinion, but maybe that should be a separate cron.

Is it to check for new versions (unlikely that 24 hours would be "out of date" compared to 24), or more about the active client count for licensing, possibly what the "etc" stand for?
