JayBird
Hi all - My apologies if the answer to my problem lies elsewhere in the forum. I searched the docs and forum, but did not find an answer. A couple of days ago I logged into my current installation, which is running 6.3.1. I see a note that an update is available. Checking the news feed, I see that 7.0.1 has been released. So I head over to the download area. I see in the 'Patch Sets' section that version 7.0.1, compatible with v 7.0.0, is the only file newer than what I have. So I scroll back up to the 'Full Release' section and download V 7.0.1. I do my backup thing and upload all the files. When I head to my installation, I see a blank screen, and a 500 error. I did not have time to check into anything else since I had a batch running before too long, so I restored from my backup to 6.3.1 and was back among the living. I confirmed that IonCube Loaders version 6.0.4 is installed on the account, and see nothing else in the server requirements that should cause the issue. Any suggestions, or should I reinstall version 7.0.1 and see what happens?
xyzulu
Are you sure you are using php 5.6 at least? If you are set to php 7 already.. try it on 5.6 as a troubleshooting step.

xyzulu
You cant upgrade from 6 -> 7 with a patch set.. you need to use the full release. The OP did use the full 7.0.1 release. So I scroll back up to the 'Full Release' section and download V 7.0.1
twhiting9275
I've noticed that iconv and mbstring are both listed as 'optional'. They are not, in v7. I ran into this the other day. Make sure your server has both included. I've voiced concern over how these WSODs are popping up. Staff really need to get on this, and make this process more informative. I've seen this same situation (WSOD) three times now, with error reporting enabled, twice have been able to fix, once not so much. A couple things you might be able to check, though likely not too helpful. 1: check your site logs for errors 2: look for an actual error_log in your WHMCS directory, and in the install directory 3: look through install/logs. There might be something in that log.
JayBird
Thanks to those who replied. In my original post, I assumed a 500 error because the page had no content. However, when I examined the server logs, there were no errors in it. Even though the original download of 7.0.1 indicated no problems, I downloaded the full installation file again. No difference according to my testing, but I tried the same exact process with the newly-downloaded file. Success! Maybe something got corrupted during the original upload, although FileZilla did not indicate any errors. In any case, I am alive (and apparently well) on WHMCS v 7.0.1.
