akust0m
Hello, We'll be running a free domain promotion soon however the built in "Free Domain Name" tool doesn't seem to offer what I'm after. It states to disable the "Sync Next Due Date" function and renewal reminders. These are two things that I want left on as I wont be offering free domains to all clients, it will be just for those that take up this temporary promotion. EDIT: If I have my domains next due date = expiry, do I need this ticked at all? I'm wanting to provide a free 2 year registration but for that domain to be priced normally from then on. I would like to make it as a "promotion" whereby the client enters a promo code but I don't see how this can be implemented for a free 2 year domain via this tool. Any ideas on how we can automate this or will it be a manual action? Kind regards, Chris Edited February 19, 2015 by akust0m
akust0m
I've been looking more at the "Promotion" tool and I got it working so that the client gets a free domain when entering the promotional code but I want it so that the client only gets a free domain when choosing annual hosting. I would have thought that putting a tick on "Annually" in billing cycles would accomplish this but it does not, I just get the error: "The promotion code you entered has been applied to your cart but no items qualify for the discount yet - please check the promotion terms" when attempting to apply it in the checkout process. When I remove the tick on "Annually" it works but then it would also work for monthly hosting which I do not want. How do I get around this?
akust0m
Another thought..if I only want the client to get a free 2 year registration in the beginning but for them to be charged at the normal rate from then on, could I leave "Sync next due date" and "renewal reminders" on and utilize the "Free Domain Name" tool by selecting "Offer a free domain registration/transfer only (renew as normal)"? Would they get the free domain at first and then act as a standard charged domain thereafter? I see that the "Free Domain" tool allows 1 year registrations by default, what happens with .au domains where the minimum registration period is two years? WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted February 22, 2015 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted February 22, 2015 Hi, The reason we recommend leaving the 'Sync Due Date' option unticked with free domains is that when domains are transferred in, they will be synced to the actual domain expiration date. So when renewal time comes round, the domain will have a different next due date to the hosting so they won't be invoiced together, and the domain will get renewed for free. However if you're only permitting new registrations to be free and not transfers, then it should be OK to keep the 'Sync Due Date' option on. Hope that helps!
