bluerayconcepts
Ok kinda of a dumb question but figured I would ask anyway. Do you offer Spam and virus filtering as part of the hosting package or do you charge extra for it? I am not talking about Spam Assassin, but more something that you yourself have to pay extra for in order to even offer it to your customer. I know Postini charges - did you pass that charge onto your customer? I know that Edgewave - cost money per email box. There are cheaper solutions like ASSP. But it still cost us hosting providers money. Do you just eat the cost, or are you charging a bit extra and putting it as an addon?
Bubka3
We don't offer anything more then Spam Assassin. If you need more, Google Apps or Rackspace would be better imo.
bear
We generally install Mailscanner on ours and don't charge extra. To get the benefit of the MSFE (mailscanner front end) and simplicity of having it installed and connected properly, we usually hire configserver.com to install it. Runs about $45 per server, and well worth it.
nobaloney
Since I wrote the SpamBlocker exim.conf file for DirectAdmin, you can probably guess my answer . We not only give the benefits to our clients, but we give the file away to the entire DirectAdmin community as a free download. And the publishers of DirectAdmin give away an earlier version as an integral part of DirectAdmin. We once bought out a small hosting company using a third-party solution, but we weaned those clients off the third party solution as we moved them to our servers, and I can't recall a single one that complained about an increase in spam. If I recall correctly, cPanel also uses exim, so it's probably easy enough to implement my solution in cPanel if you'd like to play with it, and if you know anything about how Google works, I'm sure I've written enough about it so you can find it.
