It is true that whmcs is designed and and geared toward webhosting.

BUT it is still a shopping cart and can be used just as efficiently as one if you chose to do so. What i suspect is required here is the need for subscription management alone.

This can be acheived easily, all you need is a callback file so the gateway can send you the information and you automate it. Its nothing more than an automated assistant. get information, verify information, update account. Thats it. people assume API usage is hard, it is at first but you will soon get the hang of it and honestly i dont believe you need to fork out the license fees for the sake of automating subscriptions.

you run a daily cron job that executed a file to make checks that subscriptions are paid up and does the work of emailing/terminating whatever you need.

There are a great many other features that make whmcs the go to software for hosting, these you would be unlikely to need, so why pay the price.

Essentially what your after could be done in three files. Well actually just one if your really wanted to get nitpicky but three is better you can locate them seperately on the server to eliminate or at least reduce the chance of them being used maliciously.

  • WHMCS Support Manager

Hi,

We did recently fall victim to a very unfortunate attack on our servers but please be assured that this was no issue or vulnerability with the WHMCS software itself, access was gained via a successful social engineering attempt with our web hosts, and so the hosting operations of WHMCS users were unaffected.

Thanks for your replies guys, but i heard that WHMCS was hacked, any impact of that if i buy a license..?

I dont want to sound rude but probably will so i will keep this short and sweet.

Several "card processing systems" have been breached recently, one of them this year. now these are the highest security you can imagine, they have to be its the law or some s***..

So will you be stopping using credit/debit cards due to this? no need to answer the question is rhetorical really i already know the answer from my own perspective.

The thing is, these things do happen, and the true measure of a company, individual or organisation is not if they get hacked, (this is a pit fall of being so prominent in the public eye), but how well they deal with the after effects if they get hacked.

The incident in recent days was not a hack by the way but some W**K*R at the host server allowing a second W**K*R access to WHMCS server

apologies for the obfuscated technical term :)

WHMCS dealt with the issue quite well, unlike my card company, who after being notified of the problem, cancelled my card and went on to immediately issue a new card "WITH THE SAME DETAILS" i kid you not.
