how to disable announcement/affiliate

You should also change the permissions on announcements.php and affiliate.php because although they'll not appear in the menu it will still be possible to access them directly.

I tend to simply rename such files, example :

announcementsOFFLINE.php (or other TEXT that you see fit to make it obvious when viewing the directory)

That way if someone tries to use a disabled link they do not find it

When enabling again, simply remove the OFFLINE from the filename
