Why do domain name reminders get sent to customers who have set RENEW OFF for that domain name? It makes no sense. There is no point in doing so. Wow!

There is a point. It gives them a chance to change their mind about renewing.

IMHO this is the correct method - we're obliged by registries to tell clients about their impending renewals, irrespective of whether the registrant has already decided if they are likely to renew

As I understand it, if the client sets auto renew off it simply prevents the generation of an invoice in advance of the renewal. It does not stop the process of sending out reminder emails.

 

Prevention of sending out reminders only occurs if the admin checks the ‘Do Not Renew’ box in the admin panel for the name.

 

 

And further to Rob’s observation, registries themselves will send out reminders independent of the reseller which you have no control over.

That's spot on. The point being if you use a merchant gateway (CC processing), and an invoice generates, then on the due date it is auto captured and therefore an automatic renewal occurs. That option allows the client to stop that, but doesn't necessarily mean they won't want to renew.
