Recurring Payments using Paypal Pro

jordanrynard

Question

I'm looking for an alternative to Clientexec, as currently recurring payments processed through paypal pro are handled as 'do direct payment' with paypal's api. This is a problem, as my paypal account requires the CVV number every time, and so the direct payment API operation for recurring payments doesn't work for me.

I'm wondering if WHMCS has integrated the new paypal API operations like 'Do Reference Transaction', or 'Manage Recurring Payments Profile'. If so, that means that my paypal pro account would work with WHMCS when handling recurring payments! If not, and if WHMCS is just using the same dodirectpayment method as clientexec, then I'd love it if someone could let me know.

Thanks so kindly in advance.

Hey John,

Thanks for the response.

I had contacted paypal directly, and have been informed that there is absolutely 100% no way they can allow me to process transactions without a CSC using my paypal account.

I explained to several of the individuals I spoke with that every piece of software I've tried to use only uses the directPayment operation, and I have no choice! To which everyone I spoke with just essentially told me 'too bad - they should be using the recurring payment api - nothing we can do'.

My services (web hosting) are considered high-risk, according to them - so it's 100% no-go.

Worth noting: recurring payments is included with my paypal payments pro account (it's a CDN account - not sure if this differs from a US account in this way). $30.00/m covers the account fee, and recurring payments is included with that at no extra charge.

If anyone reads this, and has any suggestions I'd love to hear them!! I'm at my wits end - and have been banging my head against the wall for days now.

Or even better, if someone has a custom gateway module they've made, or have, for this purpose, I would surely pay good money for it.

Does not anyone else have this problem?? Why do I seem to be the only one?

Hi,

It's the same with WHMCS, you just need to ensure your Website Payment Pro account has the ability to process 'cardholder not present' or 'continuous authority' payments, no need to pay for the additional recurring payments addon.

Hi this is the only thread I can find regarding this issue and just want to be 100% sure I understand correctly.

I am using PayPal Pro for direct payments made through my WHMCS installation. (Just set up) When a client enters credit card details will it NOT automatically charge their credit card each month unless I set this up with PayPal itself?

Also, is that ALL that I would need to do for this? Only setup from PayPal's end and nothing additional from WHMCS?

As I said I already have PayPal Pro successfully charging cards from the site, but the client has to log in each time, something I'd prefer would happen automatically.

Thanks for your assistance.

I don't believe PayPal give 'cardholder not present' or 'continuous authority' abilities to accounts as standard, so you would need to request it from them. Nothing further is required from WHMCS' end.

Is anyone out there using PayPal Payment Pro able to set up recurring billing? I have several clients who want to be charged automatically each month and complain that they have to log in each time.

I have the samne issue. My clients put in the credit card details and would like automatic payments. We use PayPal Payments Pro.

My question is: If a client enters all the credit card details when first ordering including there CSC number and WHMCS stores all this information. How come the PayPal Payments Pro module cannot capture payment again just like it did when they first signed up?

All the information is there, it is nothing different at this point then as if they made the first payment viw the system.

Regards,

Ray

I notice from the 4.5 change log that there is a new PayPal 'Reference' module....

Can someone please confirm if this allows recurring billing in payments pro now without the CVV issues? If so, is it still a seamless process through WHMCS?

Thanks in advance.

In answer to my own question, it's a no I'm afraid. Still fires back a CVV2 number not present error.

Would be great if we could actually use the module as advertised but I guess for some people, this is just never going to work.

Our paypal payments pro account does not require the CVV with each charge. As I recall, I think we had to turn off some sort of risk option to make that happen. I'm not finding the option in my account right now, but will post back if I do.

I also recall that we had an older paypal payments pro account initially, which didn't even have the controls. We actually had to have that account deleted and sign up again to get a newer account with this particular option.

Hi Troy

Many thanks for the suggestion. The option that you are looking for is in the 'Fraud Management' section. Unfortunately, it appears that PayPal is only willing to activate this option for US accounts so the rest of the world is out of luck.

Keeping my fingers crossed that WHMCS will produce a new module that uses the integrated PayPal recurring system as already suggested above!!

Would you consider using something else besides paypal that is easier yo use and not so problematic. I had to switch my processing when paypal suspended my account for no reason and refused to reinstate it. Merchantinc.com offers recurring billing and easy to use API and you don't store any of your clients cc info (as this is against the law) it is all handled by the included gateway.
