EricHamby
After working on a client site for 2 weeks i deleted it off my server and everything apparently. These are the functions.. Delete: Deletes the record but not the files. Terminate: Deletes the files but not the record. Can someone please explain to me how this makes any since at all? I thought terminate just closes the account i had no idea it deletes everything. I thought thats what the "delete" button was for.
m8internet
Terminate allows you to check records in the future Usually applied once payment has not been made after renewal is overdue You can also restore a terminated package, but all the files have been deleted If you are sure the customer is not coming back and no longer need the records, then it can be deleted Scenario 1 An existing customer does not renew You allow x number of days and decide to Terminate their package, all their files are deleted Scenario 2 A new customer signs up, process payment for Mail In Payment However, no payment arrives, and the customer never logs in again You allow x number of days and decide to Delete their package Edited February 26, 2011 by m8internet

Would have been nice if terminate did what the word "terminate" means and "delete" did what delete means. I have lost 2 weeks of work because someone thinks terminate means DELETE.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted February 26, 2011 WHMCS CEO Share Posted February 26, 2011 Since when did terminate not mean delete? Even inside WHM itself the option is called Terminate Account. To clarify you clicked a button labelled as "Module Command Terminate" - that states it's going to communicate with the remote server and terminate the account. It also prompted you and said "Are you sure you want to run the terminate function?" to which you clicked Yes. You would infact never normally want to ever delete a record from WHMCS, but rather keep them for record keeping purposes, so the Delete option being the only way to terminate server side would not be a good idea. Matt "Module Command Terminate" i dont even see a button labeled that in my WHMCS so im not sure how i would have hit it. Terminate means to "halt" "stop service" or "discontinue" not "delete" thats what the word "delete" means. There really needs to be a better warning pop up. If i wanted content deleted i would have pressed "DELETE". But i didnt press delete, i pressed terminate which DOES NOT MEAN DELETE. You can not change the meaning of words because your trying to take up for someone. /facepalm
EricHamby
Just incase no one else wants to look up the meaning ill do it for you.... –verb (used with object) 1. to bring to an end; put an end to: to terminate a contract. 2. to occur at or form the conclusion of: The countess's soliloquy terminates the play. 3. to bound or limit spatially; form or be situated at the extremity of. 4. to dismiss from a job; fire: to terminate employees during a recession. –verb (used without object) 5. to end, conclude, or cease. 6. mh-p
Eric is correct. Terminate should NOT delete is should terminate, stop, close, deactivate the account. Employing good business practice you should not be able to delete an account but if the facility is available then remove would be more accurate and descriptive.
Daniel
How exactly would you deactivate an account on a cPanel server? Suspend it? There's already a button for that. Common sense says that terminate will remove the account. I've no idea how anyone can get confused about that. Besides - just restore your account from a backup. You do have those, right?
iPhone
So Terminate deletes the users hosting account but keeps the WHMCS records. Deletes the WHMCS records. If I want to remove a client completely, I would first Terminate and then Delete? Thanks.
othellotech
If I want to remove a client completely, I would first Terminate and then Delete? Yes, but check your local business legislation and advice from your accountant *BEFORE* deleting aclient record (as it will remove the history, invoices, payments, etc)
