When you say "cant make the whois lookups work" what *exactly* happnes on the domain availability page when you search for a taken domain - say othellotech.net ?

in the whois lookup screen in the admin area, the drop down for the TLDs is empty

inthe domain pricing screen it says

"If any extensions show "Not Found!" for the WHOIS Server then WHMCS does not support WHOIS lookups on that extension. You will need to find the WHOIS Server details for that domain and enter them in the file "includes/whoisservers.php" for lookups to work. Any checks for extensions that are not supported will return Available."

and "No Domain Extensions Setup"

I found the solution to this!!!

There are no tld's displayed in the domain name checker because you haven't set up your tld's yet.

After you have your domain registrar set up go to:

Admin > Configuration > Domain Pricing

Once you have configured a tld, refresh your user end page.

THERE IT IS!
