gruvin
Hello I've just discovered that when SMTP authenticated outbound email is in use, and when the SMTP server's user password gets changed, causing all outbound email login attempts from WHMCS to fail, there appears no notification or even log entry about the failure, that I can find. This can result in days of invoices not getting sent when in fact it appears they have. In any case, this is not something one should have to go looking for. It should be a big red alarm bell somewhere, if possible. I'm not sure of the best way to handle the situation, since clearly sending an email won't be any good! However, perhaps an urgent entry in the TO-DO list and/or a big red warning on the home page somewhere might be a good idea? It is easy to forget to update the login credentials for WHMCS email when changing the user password for other reasons. This could be a fairly common trap I would think. WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted October 20, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted October 20, 2010 SMTP Authentication failures would result in no emails being entered into the Email Log and the errors would be recorded under Utilities > Activity Log.
gruvin
Ah yes. Scrolling further down the activity log, there are authentication error reports. Well that's a plus. But in practice, we don't look at the activity log very often, if ever, and just kept using the system with no idea anything was wrong until eventually a client made contact via another means. So it would still be nice, I think, for something this 'mission critical' to produce some kind of more 'in your face' warning. I suppose this post needs to go into feature requests for 'voting' about now then does it? Hmmm
