bossman
In the client summary and profile tabs there is the "Reset & Send Password" button. I want to know what is normal for this button. We currently have encryption OFF. (Disable MD5 Clients Password *Checked*) We have clients in our system with no passwords. when we click on "Reset & Send Password", they get an email with... no password. If they request a password reset via the client area reset password procedure, they get an email with... no password. I would assume that a reset would create a random password and send it out to the client, but I'm not too concerned about my assumptions. I'm sure there is a reason behind the design. I just want to know if this is normal activity by the system and if the MD5 setting affects it. I'm sure over time we can put in random passwords for all of our clients to reset. This just caught us by surprise. Thanks Everyone!
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted September 17, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted September 17, 2010 It will generate a new client area password and email it to the client. If the email doesn't contain a password I'd check your email template.
bossman
Here is the email template. It sends it out to the client, but with no password, so it is like if the password is blank, the system doesn't have anything to change and sends back another blank. Actually, if one is in place, it just sends it. It does not create a new one and change it. Dear {$client_name}, As you requested, your password for our client area has now been reset. Your new login details are as follows: {$whmcs_link} Email: {$client_email} Password: {$client_password} To change your password to something more memorable, after logging in go to My Details > Change Password. {$signature}
othellotech
if you're using the MD%-off option, just pick "send details reminder" from the email drop down list and remove the "reset" link from the tpl
bossman
So are you saying that if I'm using the MD%-off option that the system WILL NOT reset a password and this is normal? So if I turn ON the MD% option the system will generate a new password and then everything will work even if the user does not currently have a password?
othellotech
So are you saying that if I'm using the MD5-off option that the system WILL NOT reset a password and this is normal?Yes. So if I turn ON the MD5 option the system will generate a new password and then everything will work even if the user does not currently have a password? Everyone will "need" a password initially, but yes
PuttHost
Where about is the MD%-off option ?
sohouk
Note that toggling the MD5 switch I think resets ALL passwords so your users may not be too happy. : )
sohouk
if you're using the MD%-off option, just pick "send details reminder" from the email drop down list and remove the "reset" link from the tpl Where do I pick the 'Send details reminder' email. Is it on the emails dropdown on the 'Summary' tab of a client (I can't see it) or is it somewhere else? Trevor
othellotech
yes, client details reminder is in the drop-down list of emails on the client summary
sohouk
Maybe you have a different install to me? I do not see any 'Client details reminder' email. There is a 'Password Reset Confirmation' which is the same as the ' Reset & Send Password' on the Profile tab. There is a 'Client Signup Email', but that may confuse clients as it reads as if they have just signed up, not simply requested a password. WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted September 29, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted September 29, 2010 Yes you'd send the "Password Reset Confirmation" email.
othellotech
or add the template "Client Area Details Reminder" Dear {$client_name}, You requested that you be reminded of your Client Area Login Details. They are as follows: Email Address: {$client_email} Password: {$client_password} You can login at {$whmcs_url} {$signature}
sohouk
Thats a good idea to create one. I had not really thought about email templates, but using your example is a lot cleaer than sending a password reset reminder! I was shameless and copied your example complete Trevor
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted September 30, 2010 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted September 30, 2010 That will only work if you've got MD5 encrypted passwords disabled.
