Switching from invoices to subscription and upgrade

I have a customer that I invoice every month, but he'd rather pay automatically using a reccuring payment on his cc (he doesn't want to open a paypal account BTW).

 

How do I proceed to make it so?

 

Can I do that in 3.8.1?

 

Which brings the next question... 3.8.1 - 4.1. Is it simply a matter of installing the latest? or do I have to go 4.0 and only then upgrade to 4.1?

You would just need to sign up with one of our supported merchant gateways: http://wiki.whmcs.com/Payment_Gateways those allow payments to be taken automatically from the client's credit card.

 

That is possible in 3.8.1. You can upgrade straight to 4.1.2.

I already have a 2checkout account, is it possible to setup areccuring payment through them?

-if not, which would you recommend? (I don't have a high volume of transaction through CCs)

Recurring payments with 2CO is not supported. It's not my place to recommend alternatives, the list of supported gateways can be found at http://whmcs.com/modules.php
