If the client makes an upgrade from one plan to another which is located on another server, you will need to move the clients website manually. It's not possible for WHMCS to transfer a website onto another server. WHMCS is for accounting, it's not a tool for managing the tech aspects for websites.

That's right, automatic upgrade on the same server is possible, but if they upgrade to a plan which is for a different server, their client account will display the new plan, changes in pricing (if any) and so on. They will not however have the ability to access the new plan until you have set this up for the customer manually. You'll need to do a full backup of their website and move it over to the new server.

Sadly this is not possible to do automatically using any billing and support software like WHMCS, and I can't see it ever being a feature - purely because there are so many server side issues and which would also require a lot of backend support from cPanel developers. Basically a task that would cost many thousands in trying to implement.

Don't let this sadden you though, once you've done account backups and restores several times like I have, you'll end up finding it easy and won't take as long to do. Your client should be informed that the account upgrade (if on another server) will be done in X amount of time.
