bkpt
Hello, I recently have buy WHMCS and now im going to start to install it. So at the momment i have my email hosted on a offsite server, so the only way to setup email ticket piping is using CRON method. So what your opnion / experience on working with Cron method for email piping? Does it works ok? Is it stabe and reliable? Or does the normal piping setup (with email hosted on the same server that whmcs) is a much more better way? Note: Im thinking on setting up a cron every 1 minute. What do you think? Fell free to say you opinion / advice / experience? Thanks
WHMCS Support Manager WHMCS John Posted September 29, 2009 WHMCS Support Manager Share Posted September 29, 2009 Personally I prefer the forwarder method because it's easier to setup and emails are piped instantly. However the cron method is just as reliable and stable, but a tad more complicated to setup.
ffmpeg
Pipe is faster over Cron but if you set 5 mins cron that works good and I don't think seeting cron is that complex.
bkpt
Im putting a corn job ro run every 2 minutes. What do you think of the 2 minutes time? Will it give stability / load problems or it will work ok? Or is it better to make a cron every 5 minutes? Thanks
chaloupe
Hi, Make sure you web hosting provider does accept Cron jobs to be run under 5 minutes. Many hosting companies does not allowed cron jobs under 5 minutes or more. If I do a trace of the IP you are using on your website (WebsiteWelcome which is HG), they apply the following TOS : 7. Resource Usage User may not: h) Run cron entries with intervals of less than 15 minutes. I've been using the piping method and never had any issues that we can recall.
