SonOfaBeach
Hi. I'm in mid-transfer of a UK domain name. I followed instructions and released my domain into the PDR-IN registry. At this point I was expecting the "security key" (as stated on the RC transfer page) from the losing registrar, but they dont know anything about it, so I contacted Nominet, they said they just hold the database and dont have a security key either. I now feel like I have such a tenuous hold on my domain. I'm hoping that Public Domain Registry will email me the code sometime, taking the contact email address from the administrative record. I've submitted a help ticket with them (no reply yet). This is not at all explained well on the transfer page! Where does this security key come from, and to what address is it sent? My domain is now floating in the PDR and I have no control over it, until I get the key. How do I claim back my domain? Any help appreciated.
othellotech
At this point I was expecting the "security key" (as stated on the RC transfer page) from the losing registrar, .uk domains dont have "security keys" - they are simply "pushed" by one tag-holder to another (subject to the receiving tag-holders settings on auto-accept) - so this is something you need to take up with directi/rc, and if they cant help you, you'll have to pay Nominet £10 to change the tag to someone who knows what they're doing.
JofleyUK
NB: This affects the following module; Resellerclub, Directi & Netearthone. When you change the IPS Tag at your losing registrar, the ADMIN contact of the domain in question receives a security key by email within 2-6 hours of changing the IPS TAG. This is to validate the registrant/admin contact for the domain. This is the key used to transfer in the domain to RC. Hope this helps. EDIT: The email comes from the above registrars NOT your losing registrar. Edited September 8, 2009 by JofleyUK See edit notes
SonOfaBeach
thanks for the info. I received a response from PDR and yes, they will send me the key. The domain has been in their registry for over a day now and I'm concerned as to what email they use for the admin contact. The address that shows in the SOA is fine, as is the email address that was on my 123-reg account for the domain, but the address I origially registered the name with back in 2004 is not ok. I have no idea what Nominet have on record for the domain as I have no idea of my login details on their site. I even dug out my Nominet welcome letter, but they changed the system since then and its no good to me. fingers crossed I'm starting to hate working with UK domain names!

Daniel
UK domains are much easier to work with than any others IMO, though becoming a Nominet member rather than reselling through Enom or Resellerclub makes things ten times easier.
SonOfaBeach
Oh sheeeeeet.....PDR are telling me that theyre sending the code to my old address which I dont own now. The domain is being used as a parking page by some domain company. I have no idea how to get into my Nominet account (it was 4 yrs ago and its a sh*tty system). Ive tried to log in with all my old "usual" passwords but with no joy. Does anyone know of what happens in a situation like this?
Daniel
You do as Rob said earlier and phone Nominet, explain the situation and they'll change the tag for you for a fee.
SonOfaBeach
it looks like I may have to pay Nominet £11.50 to re-establish my account /sigh, so I can change the account email address and maybe try again. Do PDR bounce the domain back to the original registrar if the domain hasnt been claimed within a certain time?
JofleyUK
effectively after your domain IPS Tag is changed the domain is no longer with the previous registrar. I will be on RC waiting for completion. I have done this a few times on NE1 and Chris had to give me a kick up the back side..lol
netearth
it looks like I may have to pay Nominet £11.50 to re-establish my account /sigh, so I can change the account email address and maybe try again.Do PDR bounce the domain back to the original registrar if the domain hasnt been claimed within a certain time? No you dont, far simpler. OK, the problem with the LB (LogicBoxes orderbox) is this, when they recieve the transfer-in email from nominet, they use the a1-admin email address to send the secret key to. So it is paramount for ease of transfer to make sure this is set correctly at the losing registrar BEFORE you change the TAG. This is why we have 2 TAGS, in case resellers forget to change/confirm it and the domain sits there looking sorry for itself without a home. no names mentioned : cough : Jofley This is what you need to say to DirectI, they will moan, and say it cant be done, BUT, they are you REGISTRAR now so it is up to them to do. 1. Login to NIC.UK 2. Goto Webmanager 3. Bring up domain 4. change CONTACT email address for a1-admin 5. Manually update the a1-admin address on the OB 6. Go to Products >> Domain Registration >> .UK Transfer-in notifications and resend the email << ONLY DI/RC can do this for their tag. Hey presto, you will get hte email. THey will moan about doing it as they have to actually do something and pass it to development to change the admin email address, but, just be persistant, dont waste your cash at Nominet.
